Car hire, who do you use and why?

Just booked our car hire for August, it seemed to good a price to miss out on.. Booked with Sixt via there .com website as they issue voucher codes to use on there and not on there .co.uk site. We paid about $318.00 for 12 days for a SUV fully inclusive rate, we never use a car the first two days as we use DME from the airport and just settle in at resort. I'm happy with that don't normally book this far in advance but made up with that price

What discount did you get? all I could see was 5%, giving me a rate of $500 for my 16 days in July, converts to £301, ebookers is about £20 less. Unless I can get a code with more than 5% then no good for me.

Yes Wayne it is today showing 5% .. I booked late last night and they were offering 10% of all bookings above standard car size? Looks like changed the offers now..

I thought there were issues with insurances when you booked via a '.com' rather than a '.co.uk'? Apologies if im wrong........this car hire business all new to me!

Usually yes but what I read last night Sixt seem to cover fully inclusive with zero excess on their .com site. Maybe it recognises a UK IP address and quotes accordingly.
Just been on the UK site to compare, there are some 10% codes on there for Teachers, NHS, MOD etc one of these brought my quote down from £312 to £300 (not 10%) which is exactly the same price as using the .com site but then there is 8% Quidco so price would be £276. not low enough for me to use an off airport supplier but it does seem to be the lowest price around just now (by about £6 for my quote)

Think that's what I'll be doing this weekend!! Are there places close to SSR to collect from? Had a quick look last night and struggling to find any decent reviews of Sixt in Orlando?!

The closest to DW is around 10 mins from DTD, I plan to use free disney bus to DTD, then jump on a normal bus from there about 5/10 mins costs $3 or walk it around 20 mins...

We booked with Avis again this year - only because I used my BA Avios to pay for the car hire.

So cost was £0 :cool1:

Thank you! !

Keeping an eye out for offers, Hertz normally have a world sale every few months. I usually check Hertz first for a rough idea.

Used a few different ones over years all very much the same, pushy sales for upgrades so try get membership so go straight over to garage and pick car up.

Can I assume that Hertz Gold has the same sort of sign-up process that Dollar Express has - i.e. free to sign up, no need to be a previous customer? Or is it more a loyalty based program?

Kenny

Hi Cliveywolves & Others.

Between Post 20 to 26

Are you sure that you have Full Insurance Cover on using Sixt.com ?

I have looked it up & it looks as IF INSURANCE is Extra

On the Sixt.Uk site IT IS included.

I was cought out this way when, a few years ago , I went with another co.

I had A Reference No. BUT NO Voucher.

At Orlando Airport Car Rental Desk IT WAS " Pay Now " for Insurance

OR " NO CAR " ..... I had Paid & it Cost A LOT of Money

I said I Had A REFERENCE NO ...... BUT NOWHERE DID IT SAY

Insurance Was Included.

Free to sign up, just need a card registered to the account.

Its a bit of both Kenny. As said free to sign up to. I believe it still gives free spouse adding to insurance on US rentals plus you get rewards towards free rentals, although I have never really studied it, I am only interested in bypassing the desk and making collection easy.

The quote I got the other day clearly said insurance included with zero excess but it was the same price as booking on UK site so as I said I assume it figures out you IP address and quotes for that country.

It does include all insurance and waiver policies etc with zero excess in event of any claim..

I've only driven once at WDW (stayed off site), in 2011. I booked through florida-car-hire.com (with Alamo).

Had a look online for this year (above site, and the Alamo, Budget and National websites) and Alamo came out cheapest for me on their own site. We need to pick up from the Dolphin and drop off at MCO.

Will have a look at some of the others mentioned here - thanks!

Thanks Wayne. Same as me for bypassing the lines - thats why we signed up for Dollar Express and it worked a treat. I will sign up tonight and see how it all works.
