hi everyone

This is more for future trip planning but I thought I would ask-we are currently expecting our third baby - already have dd6 and dd2 - and we're having to change our car this year for the new arrival as can't fit 3 car seats in the back of the car! I am not a fan of minibus people movers as I don't like the lack of luggage space and I'm not a fan of having any child 'in the boot' of a car (I'm OVER safety conscious!) so just wondered what people do hire when they are going out with 3 children and 2 adults?! We have hired a standard suv (we've hired it again this year) but I'm not convinced all models will fit 3 seats?! dd6 is in a seatbelt booster but the two little ones will be in a full on car seat?
Any suggestions?

TIA!

If in doubt go for a model up from the standard SUV.
There's normally only two of us & we always go for an SUV because we like the height & size of the vehicle, we were upgraded to a model up from standard one year & it was huge, so huge in fact we christened it the beast.

We always have the 7-seater mini-van in FL. You'd be surprised how much you can get in the back also the child really isn't in the boot of those mini vans there is a good distance behind them (there is as much distance between the back seats in my car here and the mini-van if anything the minivan has more). Also you only need luggage space to and from the airport for which you can fold half of the rear seat. Meaning 2 adults in the front, 2 kids in the middle and one in the back.

Hi

We've been going since my children required booster seats (don't now) and the rear of the bog standard car we always hire has always seemed big, I've booked this again this year from Alamo a Chrysler 200 or similar and a quick search brought this up http://www.thecarcrashdetective.com/2015/08/3-across-installations-chrysler-200.html/

We also bought a BoostApak for them each when they got to a size where they could sit on one. We go abroad a lot (Spain mainly) and hire companies charge the earth to rent rubbish dirty booster seats and two trip savings paid for these :-)

Hope this helps

Regards

Paul

we are a family of 5 and got standard suv and we could fit 3 seats in the regular back row, on our longer drives to the keys we did put 1 in the rear seats just to stop them poking and annoying each other there was still a good size gap between the rear seats and the back of the car.

Thanks for your responses! When were there next week I'll measure a typical back seat and see what happens... We normally rent with Alamo which usually means we get a good choice of car but it depends on what is in the car park at the time when we arrive..: we've held off for 20 mins before waiting for 'the car' so just wondered if anyone had a model they would direct me to? We've had a VW toreg (sp?) in the past which seemed huge?! Would defo prefer to stay with suv types.....
Thanks again

It's really difficult to know what they'll have year on year. Especially at MCO. Generally, something like a Jeep Grande Cherokee will be bigger than a Nissan Rogue for example. But I didn't see either of those in MCO this last week in the Alamo SUV Section. Dollar had loads of the Dodge Journeys (horrible thing).

We took a Chevy Camaro Convertible from Disney Car Care (no kids!!) :)

If you go Alamo and are not hiring through Virgin, it may be wise to head over to the B Side of the terminal, as I've seen it get rammed on the A Side with both regular Alamo Customers, and Virgin Holidays Customers (esp when Gatwick, Manchester and Glasgow all land within the hour!) all trying to get cars at the same time and every one trying to rush down the aisles to get the good pick!
