car hire please advise

We are staying at AKL for 3 weeks arriving in 12 days. were going to hire (rent) a car for 10 days in the middle of holiday to visit Universal etc but due to some issues with visa card I can't charge it to that. Should I cancel car hire? if so what is th best way to get about outside the world OR should I hire with cash - how much deposit are they likely to require?

I think they want something like $500 dollars for the hire time if you pay by cash.

I would suggest getting a taxi if you only want to go off site a few times, as it will be cheaper. AKL front desk can arrange this for you. Prices are not too bad if you are not going too far.

You can hire with www.usrentacar.co.uk and they allow you to pay 8 weeks before your holiday and you can sent a cheque I believe, but I dont know how that affects the guarantee? Obviously I have just reread your post and you are going in 12 days - maybe give them a call. We have used them and they were good.

Another suggestion, do you have a debit card - maybe that will be ok?

many many thanks for that...have managed to book and pay with debit card so that is fine. Got credit card for imprint for deposit and have managed to hire sat nav as well. thanks for your help

Ques? sorry who did you hire with in the end?

Last year we used Dollar and that was only because there was a deal, but I still thought it was quite pricey.

I'm surfing the net having a look, any suggestions/tips would be appreciated.

went for the link in the second post - it was through them but with alamo, but it meant i could prepay with my switch card othrwise we wouldn't have been able to do it with credit. I assume they will take an imprint of credit card for security but not charge it unless something happens. cost just over £200 for 9 days with sat nav hire as well

Certainly with Dollar last year they just took an imprint of my card and didn't charge anything - thank goodness I don't think there was much credit on there lol

No they dont take anything from the card and usrentacar were good last year - wouldnt recommend them otherwise. Have a great trip
