Last year I paid £500 for a seven seater with all insurance , plus tank of fuel and as many drivers over 25 as needed , just got of the phone with Carhire3000 and got the same car and package for £433.28 :thumbsup2 £45 deposit and final paymnet due in july for august collection , the car is with dollar . So now the only thing to sort out is our attraction tickets and we are all set whoo hoo oh and I can say I am going THIS YEAR

that does seem like a good price. What vechicle were you allocated last year?

I've been pricing up SUV's and the cheapest I can find is a Chevy Traverse with Hetz using a AA code for 395.00. I did find cheaper smaller SUV's, but hubby and DS want a large beast.

A Tahoe was over 500.00

We had a Dodge caravan last year and that is what we should have this year .

How long for?
I have been looking for a deal on a 7 seater. Best I can find is Auto Europe who we used twice last year.
18 nights, additional drivers, tank of gas £547.39 less 7% Quidco = £509.07.

Standard 14 night trip £407.11 less 7% Quidco = £378.61

14 nights is a better daily rate than the 18 nights we want.
They also do a price match if you see a lower rate or free cancellation.
I am holding out for a better deal, I want to pay same as last year around £450 for 18 nights.

Does that include fully comp insurance? We got a free car through virgin, but to upgrade from third party insurance to fully comp cost £400 :scared1:

We ended up not bothering, even though one of the potential hire cars is actually the jeep 7 seater we already own :rotfl2:

Yes most UK rental companies/agents include all insurances. Its usually the tour ops/package hols with "free" cars that don't include insurance.

Almost always cheaper to ignore the "free" car and use someone like the 2 companies listed above but not alwyas, depends what deal you get from the tour op.

I'm panicking now! I got the 'free' car with my package, but paid £60 for basic insurance. The operator told me this was fine and to decline the offer of upgrading when I get there.

After seeing your prices in the hundreds I'm worried now mine is too low and I've missed something??

It's with Alamo

Who is it with? how long for? £60 sounds very cheap. An idea of tour op costs here for "free" car
http://www.thomson.co.uk/editorial/features/car-hire/car-hire-inclusive-packages-florida.html
Cheapest possible for 2 weeks = £266, same car can be hired for under £200, nothing free about it.

It's with Cosmos as part of the package.

Mu confirmation says this;

Car Hire: Thu 11-OCT-12 14 Days 1 x INTERMEDIATE 4DR AUTO 2BAG AC
Insurance: Basic
Pick-up: Alamo Desk at Airport Drop-off: Alamo Desk at Airport

We always have a 7 seater van and these are the prices I got for 14 days' hire at MCO during one of the Hertz sales (I think I booked in October):

November 2011 - £346.58 - less 6% Quidco
Jan/Feb 2012 - £405 - less 10% Quidco

I also have a 15 day booking with BA/Avis at Sanford (you don't have to be travelling with BA to use their car hire). Because we are members of the BA Executive Club you get an additional driver 'free', which is why we chose it.

April/May 2012 - £404 - less 5% Quidco

I was happy with these prices and in each case it was/should be, pick up keys on arrival without any need to queue :)

Typed the above in a hurry, but meant to say that it's always worth checking the car hire companies' own websites when they have offers, Hertz and Avis in particular, and I've had a few good deals by using Avis via the BA website at sale times. Great advantage of booking with the hire companies themselves is if you need to cancel or change - usually just an admin fee payable.

I have been spending the last few days trying to find a decent price for a large SUV.

Be careful when using quidco, as the prices change. For example with Auto Europe, if you search quidco free, a larger list of prices comes up. Wayne for 14 days August the price was 366.00 for a caravan 7 seater.

Here is a price comparison on a large SUV for 2 weeks in August. The insurance package may not always be the same, but they are all at least gold level.

Alamo Brits code - 563
Budget - 451 (Jeep chereokee)
Hertz - 457 - Traverse or Equinox, with the AA code and booking via the gold club I can get a reduced price on this of 395.
VA - 366 - Equinox
USrentacar - 496 - Jeep
Netflights - 496 - Jeep
National - 543 - Jeep
Auto Europe - 370 - Jeep, Explorer 454 trailblaz 454 Durango 508.
Carhire 3600 - 477 (jeep)
Avis were just crazy prices.

All cars quoted will be or similar model of course.

I think I am going to book with Auto Europe now as there are no cancellation fees until nearer the travel date and if we get a glitch come along I can always cancel. I do prefer to rent from Hertz and they may have a special offer nearer the time too.

Wayne do Auto Europe use just one rental place or are they like a broker for all of them?

Prices for a mid size SUV all are Ford Escape or similar.

Budget 457
Hertz 434
VA 317
USrentacar 314
newtflights 397
national 449
Auto Europe 329

Cosmos do 3 levels of cover, look here right at the bottom. http://www.cosmos.co.uk/faq/holidays/car-hire/florida-car-hire
Basic suggests you will only get the car & Third Party Limited (state min.) which is not enough.
Although I have never known anyone being charged for this.
You need to confirm before you go or you could end up paying a high price locally, you need fully inclusive or Gold/Platinum (includes extr drivers & tank of gas)

Quote without Quidco £563.03, Via Quidco £547.39 less 7% Quidco = £509.07. Strange its more expensive direct, I expected higher price thru Quidco.

Had cars from Alamo & Dollar thru AE.

Just to be safe I've just upgraded my car insurance to Fully Inclusive for £210, feel much better now! :D

Basic was not enough, you need fully inclusive. Is that ontop of the £60? cost you £270 now? Not too bad, you wouldn't have saved much using a broker.

I think the £60 was because I upgraded from a small car to an intermediate. So the insurance was just £210, quite please with that considering the quotes her are in the £400 range! :D

It just goes to show. My price for the type of car I'm looking for is more with Quidco, but there is still a small saving overall.
