Car color - did you get what you wanted or settle on something else?

Did you get the car color you wanted or settle on something else?

  • Yes, I got the color I wanted off the lot or special ordered it that way.

  • No, I settled on a color because it was all the dealer had.

  • Other - because there has to be an other (maybe you had it painted later?)

After seeing a report on Yahoo about "What the color of your car says about you" I immediately thought - it says I got the color that the dealer had available! We just bought a new SUV and it is silver. We like silver, but it was not our top choice, or even second choice. We couldn't order one from the factory, however, and the silver one had all the features we wanted so we got it. We are not unhappy with silver, we just would have preferred a blue colored version.

So what about you? Did you "settle" for a color because it was all you could get? You see these news stories every once in a while about car colors, but when you go to a dealership all you can get are black, white, silver, and one or two on the lot maybe are in an actual "color", with red being the most prevalent of those.

We also get what is available or what is the best deal. While there are some colors I would NOT get, we generally are okay with anything in the grey, brown, maroon, blue, or green family. Right now all our vehicles are dark blue.

I voted other because there are colors I wouldn't get despite a good deal. I would not get bright red, yellow, orange, etc. I want to blend in! I'm also not crazy about plain black or white, but I'd get them if the deal was good enough.

Well, we only buy used vehicles, so we usually have to settle. Right now, we have a white truck and a black Envoy.

We NEVER wanted a white vehicle, but DH fell in love with all the features this truck had.
But (and no offense to the OP) I will NOT buy a silver colored vehicle. I just don't like them. Usually though, any other color will be ok with us.

I bought my car via email - gave the dealer a choice of colors. They had one in dark green. At the last minute, I sent them a note saying that I had thought it over and really wanted black. I would go through with the purchase on the green, but was there any way to switch?

They found a black version on another dealer's lot. I had to pay an extra $400 for mud flaps and wheel locks since they were already on the car. But every time I see a green car, I think how much better the black looks, and how gald I am for switching.

When I buy a new car, I get the color I want. On our last car, I also had the seats reupholstered in leather before I picked it up.

I keep my car between 7and 15 years, so I want it to be the car I want.

When I bought my car (the first brand new car I had ever bought) I had pre-picked what I wanted from the website and told the salesman. At first he wasn't sure he had the color (can't remember what others were available) but luckily a truck had just come in and the color I wanted was on the lot!

I would have considered other options except black and red.

When I got my car, I said I'd like blue, but just didn't want another black car (the one I test drove was black). Went home, went to the dealers site...they had a silver one with the specs I wanted. Went back, silver car was actually blue.

I settled for what the dealer had. I really didn't want a black car, however, when I heard the name I thought, "That's my car, and also the name of it." So my car's name is The Black Pearl, and that's also the name of the color, Black Pearl. :thumbsup2

I went all the way to Savannah to get the color I wanted. It is royal blue and I love it. :cloud9: There were other cars available at dealers closer with the features I wanted but they were red or pearl. I didn't want those. I have not see another one this color. When I took it to a dealer here to have the oil changed they commented on the color and they hadn't see one like that.

With our most recent vehicle, no. We were looking for a Dodge Grand Caravan and they were having a year end clearance sale, so we had to take what they had. Plus, we wanted a certan price, and the colr we wanted (navy blue) was $1000 over the one we bought. We got a black van, which is okay, but I wanted to navy.

Right before I got married, I replaced my Chevy Cavalier (black, was a dealer demo...great price, not my color choice) with an Olds Alero. I fell in love with the Electric Blue color, so the dealer had to get it from another dealer out of state.

We have always been able to get cars in the color we want - new or used. You just have to be patient or find a dealer who will work with you.

Our newest vehicle (2005) was not available locally with the color or options we wanted. This was during the GM Employee Pricing and the local dealerships said that you had to buy what was on the lot or nothing. I went online and found a larger Chevy dealer and called them. I told him exactly what we wanted and he found it for us. So, we drove two hours away but ended up with the vehicle we wanted. The other dealerships ended up with no sale.

With used cars, I just shop around until I find exactly what we want. It took me a year to find the last one (a '96 we purchased in 2002). I'm glad I waited because we found a cheaper car with lower mileage. If I had settled, I probably would have been sorry later.

Both our cars we got because they had the features etc that we wanted. My last car was some nasty yellow-y green color that I HATED, but it was the last of the prior model year on the lot, so it was CHEAP. Current car is silver, which I don't mind, but it also just had the features we wanted.

Our other car is red. Def. not in the top of our choices. It was very cold that day, so we did most of our "shopping" by sitting in the showroom. Salesman grabbed a stack of folders and told us the features. We didn't even see this car until after we had bought it.

I started with a very old yet very cool baby blue Jeep CJ-5. I drove it into the ground for 9 years. I loved this car and the color was great.

My second car was a tan/brown sedan. Hated it. Never again.

My third and current car is bright red. I will only own bright red cars from now on. I bought it new and I still have it 13 years later.

I couldn't stand driving a dull, boring, fit-in car, but that's just my personality.

Mine could be either yes or no, I guess...I originally went in thinking I wanted black and only black, but ended up seeing a silver one that I fell completely in love with, so silver was what I got. So it wasn't what I thought I wanted, but turned out to be what I really did want. :)

Last vehicle I bought I special ordered in the color (and options) I wanted.

When I went to the dealership I was only going to buy a silver car, but ended up driving off is a goldish color and I love it now!

When I buy a new car, I get the color I want. On our last car, I also had the seats reupholstered in leather before I picked it up.

I keep my car between 7 and 15 years, so I want it to be the car I want.

Me too!! Did the same thing with the leather seats when it wasn't offered as an option by the manufacturer.

I bought mine almost 2 model years behind, so I got a screaming deal. I had about 3 color choices and I picke the one I like the best out of it. It wasn't worth what it would have cost to pass up the deal for the exact color I wanted.

This car I settled. Bought what the dealer had cause it was everything else I wanted and got a good deal.
Last new car I ordered the color I wanted.

I'm usually not that picky about color. I think that's why I always get a color I love. :) What did the article say about people who drive maroon-colored cars?
