car and trails end?

we'll have a car so we'll be pretty mobile. How do we get to Trails End Buffet? Do we go to wilderness lodge or do we go to the campground? I guess I should be more informed by reading all the travel books I have bought and reading these boards for the last 3 months. Can we park in either place leave the car for awhile and explore(the petting area the campfire etc) or should we park in DTD and take a boat? As you have probably figured out by now we have never been to DW before. mimimom

trail's end is at fort wilderness. you can not get to fort wilderness from the boat at downtown disney. you can, however, take the bus from downtown disney to fort wilderness. having never been to wdw, i would suggest going to MK and taking the boat to fort wilderness. trail's end is just a short walk up the path from the dock. you could also park at wilderness lodge and take the boat from there. we have found taking the boat a lot easier than the bus. have a great trip!

Thank you so much for the info. Im already feeling a little lost because we have never been before and my DH usually does all the driving and he will not be able to go this trip. We will be there for 2 weeks at the end of July. Is there one day that is better to try Trails end or are they pretty much the same? Breakfast,lunch or dinner? any suggestions? mimimom

If you want to drive, you can park at the Fort Wilderness entrance parking lot. The entrance is called the "Outpost". You take a bus back to FW "Settlement" where the Trails End restaurant is located. If you take a boat, it will drop you off at the "Settlement" and you can walk to Trail's end. I hope this isn't too confusing.

We've only had lunch there and it was very good.
