Good grief. The man did not get up on stage in that get up to be respected. He did it for fun. Looks like many are enjoying the performance even after the fact. By the way, what does being black have to do with the perceived riducule?

Sorry Steve but I agree that you are way off-base with your charges of racism on this thread.

WOW a racist post? Are you kidding?!?!?! Don't you remember when everyone made fun of Madaline Albright for doing that dance somewhere in Asia a few years ago? Man someone needs to get out more. I thought I had seen it all on the DIS...

I can appreciate anyone laughing at themselves. I sure laughed when I saw the first picture!! :teeth:

I think it's a funny picture too. Racist? Nowhere that I can see.

Actually, no. John Cazale, the actor who played Fredo Corleone, died in 1978 of cancer.

Eeyore, you and I have always (or most always, anyway) seen eye to eye in the past, but you are WAY off base on this one. It's also very much out of character for you to pull an imaginary race card like this - are you feeling okay? :jester:
I am feeling perfectly fine. How are you?

I grew up in a time & place where ridiculing people of other races was done easily and frequently ... and just as easily and frequently dismissed as "just having some fun." The odd thing is that this ridicule didn't stop at just words. "Just having some fun" escalated into violence, but that, too, was dismissed as "just having some fun."

I've grown weary of the obnoxious and repugnant political threads from all sides that serve only to tear down & polarize people. Civility in politics is fast becoming an ancient virtue, and may soon be forgotten altogether.

But when we being posting pictures and inviting people to ridicule others, including people of color, it brings back too many bad memories. Then when people dismiss it as "just having fun" -- :( So I choose to speak out and if everyone disagrees with me, so be it. But this is something I cannot and will not remain silent on.

Just one question in closing: if the current SecState were female, Caucausian, and/or a Democrat, would the OP have started the exact same thread and would people have responded in just the same way? Somehow I doubt in that case that this thread would ever have been started. :sad2:

Wow, I didn't know that :( How odd is it, though, that this comes up just a couple days after the godfather himself passes on ? I mean, you have to admit, the resemblence is uncanny ::yes::

Democrat? No, this thread wouldn't have been posted by this particular OP, that's for sure.

Aside from that, if a similarly goofy picture was posted of a different public figure, I'd probably still be laughing and making jokes. Call me mean, call me callous, but it's the way I am. :)

Eeyore, I don't get it. He is wearing an outfit like one of the Village People would wear. He is doing something INTENDED to be funny. We are laughing.

Yes if a white female democrat was wearing the same outfit, caught in a dance move it would be open for a thread like this. Just not by the OP.

Oh, I dunno....If I'd seen a particularly funny picture about a democrat I may have...But I don't exactly frequent a lot of websites that make fun of democrats, so I'm not quite as likely to have come across such a picture. Hey, I laughed out loud at the pic dmadman posted yesterday with the caption quoting "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling", does that count ? :teeth:

What the heck does his being black have to do with it? It's a funny picture whether or not he's black, white, pik or purple. ANd yes, it's better to make fun of because he's republican.

Here...I made a special effort to find this one...

Yeah, I know it's an oldie, but I wasn't having much luck finding newer pics...I guess you Republicans just aren't as funny as us Democrats :hyper:

I think that if it had been anyone else it would have been started if it were funny.
