Captains Grille at the YC

thanks ladies!! I am wondering if I should bump up the time for our dinner here....I was considering doing it on the night of the MVMCP...if we do it this year...I am worried about the slow service tho...don't want to miss the party if it's gonna take awhile!! Thanks for the feedback--I knew I could count on ya!!!

Sorry - don't mean to hijack this thread. But on our arrival evening (we're driving) I have two ADR 's - an early dinner @ Teppan Edo and a later one for Captain's Grille in case we don't arrive early enough to make it worthwhile to use a day's pass into Epcot. I'll cancel the one we don't need when we get closer to Orlando.

Anyone done both and have a preference?

We ate at Captain's Grille in November. We really liked it. It doesn't have tons of personality / atmosphere, but it made up for it in service. The place wasn't very crowded; when we arrived we had an entire area of the dining room to ourselves.

Honestly, I can't remember what we had to eat -- I could go check my receipts -- but each of us enjoyed our meals.

My mouth is watering right now over that lobster roll. We've had many breakfasts here over the years but never lunch or dinner - how did I not know they have lobster rolls? It's one of my all time favorite foods! Thanks for the pic - I will definitely be trying one of these soon!

I had lunch there last week. The lobster roll was superb, very authentic (I've had them on boat docks up in Maine and the Captain's Grille version was right up with those!!!)

Is this a pic of the lobster roll at the Captain's Grille? I saw a pic once before and I remember it looking a little different. I don't remember it being served in paper, but maybe they changed it?

maybe it was on paper because it was for lunch?:confused3
I am now excited to eat here!! I am going to be revising my plans later on in the summer..making sure Disney doesn't change hours too much between now and then...wanted to make sure this was a keeper!! I think it is for sure!! I may even take us there for dinner on arrival day...you know how you don't eat or sleep well on travel day...this could keep us going!!!

I've been looking at this restaurant as well and am seriously undecided! We need something for our day while at Hollywood, and NOTHING is jumping out at me!

Not eaten dinner here recently but when we last did a couple of years ago I recall having a very nice steak. I like CG as it has a nice range of food and a relaxed atmosphere (which perhaps is connected to the previously slow service sometimes).

We always have breakfast at least once every trip there though!

I don't mean to be a :sad1: "Debbie Downer" :sad1: but although this looks delish, I order that exact same thing when we were there a few months ago and found the lobster meat to be rather mushy and not so sweet. In fact, it tasted rather fishy and it was like it was previously frozen. Perhaps I just had a bad batch or went there on an off day, but I was not thrilled with my choice

Sorry you had that experience. Lobster meat (once out of the shell) does not freeze well, so I doubt the problem with the roll you got was the result of that. Maybe a less than fresh lobster (the "bad batch" thing) was used? Whatever, I can vouch that the roll I enjoyed recently was one that definitely featured fresh, plump and delicately sweet North Atlantic lobster.

It's one of my favourites :goodvibes used to eat there when it was the Yacht Club Galley and keep going back now it's Captains Grille, we've never had a bad meal.

Nice atmosphere, good (not too over priced for Disney) food, in fact we've always found the steaks to be great too. My favourite dish is the roast chicken, for something that is so simple and plain sounding, it is delicious, comes with a little pot of chicken juis on the side, wonderful.

Well it has been a year since we ate there so this review might be too old. We were unable to eat anywhere at Epcot because we had no ADR and concierge got us in here. It was very kid friendly. Our service was actually very fast. Think it depends who you get, so fast that course came while still finishing salads etc. ( We were o.k. with this since we were dining with kids)I am a big steak fan and after many many steaks at Disney, it was the best I have ever had there. I know my husband loved his but can't remember what he got. Food was great! Atmosphere was typical hotel lobby restaurant, nothing impressive. Will try again when in the area.

For $17.99 I hope it is not on paper. Here is the pic I previously saw:

Classic New England Lobster Roll - served on a butter toasted split-top bun with a choice of Vegetable Orzo Salad or fries $17.99

Oh man, that's terrible. That would be a huge disappointment.

Sadly it was.:sad1: But its nice to hear so many positive reviews, hopefully we just hit it on an off day. I would love to hear new experiences and maybe someday we will try it again. I really love a good lobster roll!:goodvibes

The food was pretty good but I found the atmosphere totally boring. It felt like any old restaurant I would dine at up here in Boston.

Personally, when I'm in WDW I want to feel like I'm in WDW. Given how many other GREAT places there are to eat within a very short distance of the Yacht Club I would visit someplace else for sure.

Cape May Cafe, ESPN Club, Yachtsman Steakhouse, Kouzzina, Flying Fish and any of the World Showcase restaurants.

When we booked our trip at the YC back in Jan. 09 we made an ADR last minute for our arrival night at the Captains Grill. We were not expecting much but really didn't want to run around. WERE WE SURPRISED!!!! This place is such a well kept secret. The service was excellent and the food was very good. In fact I've had the steak here twice and like it better than a very popular steakhouse in Epcot.

As for the decor, it is definately not an over the top themed place. Like a pp stated it is like any restaurant in any city. But for me, that is what I like. It's nice to get away from all of the theming for a couple of hours and enjoy a good meal. :)

If you want to eat at DHS...have you considered the 50s Prime Time Cafe? That is one of our family's favorites!!!!! We loooove eating here..it's very fun--the CMs are your 'family': Moms in the kitchen and your aunts, cousins, uncles, serve you. They are usually very funny...all 50s decor --and I promise you can NOT eat all the food..we do this for lunch so we have a day to walk it off!!! It's just great!

I agree..especially if we eat here on the evening we arrive...I usually wind up with a headache from travel stress and don't want to eat where everyone is all keyed up and the place is loud--sound or decor wise.....and if we eat here before the Christmas party...I want to have a nice quiet meal!!! I have it scheduled for dinner..but I may switch it to lunch!
