Why is this attraction still up? lol I remember watching this when I was in elementary school and my wife and I went last year and this was the biggest waste of time IMO. I loved Honey I Shrunk the Audience and I am not sure why they got rid of it, much less replaced it with Captain EO.

What are your thoughts?

According to Touring Plans, it's permanently shutting down sometime in April

Last I saw, it was only temporarily shutting down to make room for a tommowland preview. Would love to see a new movie there though

Could be. But, Touring Plans has it listed under permanent closures. I personally think that would be the most appropriate action. It's awful.

We saw it in Disneyland in 2011... The kids were all really surprised by how odd it was, and that it didn't seem to "fit". But then they kept talking about it, and quoting it...so of course they all wanted to see it again at WDW in 2012. Same reaction. Can't believe I sat thru this twice...on both coasts! Lol.

I'm wondering why they took away Honey I Shrunk Audience to begin with and put back Captain EO? Was it in memory of MJ?

This is why we're never having kids... Just Kidding!!! lol

I really loved it as a kid, but not so much 25 years later lol.

Don't worry, they'll bring it back again whenever Michael Jackson dies again and they need to cash in..... ;)

at least kids today know MJ.
on the other hand this generation does not know honey i shrunk the kids.
that movie was popular during my childhood and i was happy to see honey i shrunk the audience go.
it was an annoying show in my opinion.

they brought captain eo back because of MJ's death.
it started out as a "limited time tribute" but i think they decided it was just easier to leave it around for a while until they could figure out the next big attraction to put in that theater.
then frozen came along.

personally i love captain eo so i wouldn't mind it sticking around for another 5yrs.

of course its closing after april 10th when i'm gonna be at epcot on april 14th so i will miss it.
they are replacing it with scenes from the new movie "tomorrowland" which opens in theaters on may 22nd.
at which point captain eo will reopen.

I do think that Capt EO's official time is running out, even if it comes back after the Tomorrowland previews. It's ancient, and feels like it. But then again so do many parts of Epcot...which I think will be where Disney starts pointing some rehab money, after DHS gets rolling and Avatar is done.

Hopefully it's all part of a complete re-imaging of the Imagination pavilion. Hard to believe that an entire building devoted to imagination built by a company that practically invented the concept can't produce anything but the steaming turd pile that sits there now.

If there brought back the original Journey Into Imagination, that would be a great start.

Completely agree. I miss it more than almost anything else at WDW, especially the old Imageworks.

I was happy at first to be able to see The captain eo show that I missed cause I was too young before. But after seeing it I was kinda underwhelmed. I do love the fact I could see a show using real props and costumes and not cgi though. I definitely miss that creativity.

Its a lot like the parades. Disney keeps these around longer than they should. I was just mentioning a similar notion in the MSEP thread. These things need to be changed every now and then with something completely new. Not to bring back something old and outdated. HISTA was around too long but going back to EO should have been a one summer run right after Michael passed away. It should not have become permanent like it did. They desperately need something new.

Yeah, it's not like the Disney corporation has no experience in the movie making field. This is what Disney does (or used to do). A replacement should have been in place a long time ago.

with the exception of Philharmagic(very unique in my own opinion), I think they really need to update Muppets and EO/HISTA every couple of years with something new.

I would love it if they also added new views to Soarin'. do it more like Star Tours where you see something different with each viewing.

I remember seeing Captain EO when DH and I went to WDW years ago. I thought it was reasonably good, the music was fun, so was the dancing and the 3D was pretty neat. But we really loved Honey I Shrunk the Audience because it wasn't just 3D but had the additional effects (everytime the "mice" came out of the screen, even though I knew it was only air on my feet it still made me squeal and pull my legs up). Then in 2013 we went and thought we'd see Captain EO for the nostalgia. Did not age well. The look was outdated, the dancing was so kitschy, the hair was hilarious and the 3D technology has been surpassed significantly since then. Kind of want my 30 minutes back. Glad they've removed it but I hope that they replace it eventually with something more than a movie trailer.

Didnt captain eo feel very epcot to you guys? It was space and futuistic adventure it felt like it empowered the Essenece of Epcot

Well, we've never went to it at all; but this last trip i was tempted to go just to say I'd done it but then I thought it would be some time of my vacation I'd never get back. :rotfl2:
