Can anyone tell me why Disney decided to start showing Captain EO at WDW again recently?

I get that it used to be a show that was popular but since then, Jackson has gone from popular superstar to a known child molesting pervert who was known to take seriously large amount of drugs and was finally killed by his "doctor".

Why on earth is a show celebrating his life considered to be suitable in a theme park frequented mainly by children? Looking online very few people seem even the slightest bit concerned about it, am i missing something here?

Captain EO has been back in the parks for a long time now, there was much discussion when it happened about why it was brought back. Regardless of Jacksons personal life and accolades in the music industry I think the attraction stinks and is horrific. Cutting edge in 1985 is a joke now. Hopefully WDW will replace it with something else soon.

MJ was acquitted of all charges, so he's not a "known" child molester.

And the movie/attraction doesn't celebrate his life any more than Pirates of the Caribbean "celebrates" the life of Johnny Depp.

Goodness - next time you're at Disney, take a real close look around.

Pirates of the Caribbean? NOT a nice buncha fellows (and don't forget about Anne Bonny). Murderers, theives, the whole nine yards.

Cinderella? In the original Grimms Brothers story, the evil stepsisters were forced to wear iron shoes heated red hot ..... and dance in them until they died.

Snow White? As I recall, her stepmother paid someone to tear her living heart out...... and Snow ended up living with a buncha bachelors in a hideway in the woods, under somewhat dubious circumstances. :rolleyes1

Won't someone please think of the children?!

Historically, Japan is one of the most imperialistic nations on the planet, how dare Disney celebrate it by dedicating an entire pavilion to it! Shut it down!

Pirates of the Caribbean? More like Rapists of the Caribbean. How dare Disney celebrate the lifestyle of some of history's most notorious criminals. Disgusting filth.

The Peter Pan ride is based on a movie based on a book written by an alleged pedophile. What was Disney thinking?

How did Disney World every become synonymous with family? It's clearly little more than a thinly-veiled cesspool of immortality.

How long until this gets locked?

I'm in for under 5.:surfweb:

I am getting the popcorn:rolleyes1

Me too! Caramel flavoured if you have it?popcorn::

OP, I get that you're a Brit (from a couple of the other threads you've posted to), and we all know what a deliciously dry and sly sense of humour you all have, but really? Given the subject of this thread, and the one you started about taking food from buffets, you are seriously running the risk of being accused of :stir: I will resist the temptation of calling :yoda: for the moment. But for now I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and just warn you that the troll hunters could pounce at any time.

:rotfl:

Captain EO was added over a year ago after the death of Michael Jackson (who, despite his questionable 'morals' was an iconic, extremely talented musician). It's just temporary and will likely be replaced with a new attraction in the near future.

Thats what i thought too

OK i'll bite for a second, see kids don't know much about Michael Jackson, and if they saw the show, i'm pretty sure they wouldn't know about his legal history or all his troubles, they just see some person in a show in Disney. The PARENTS would notice, but i'm sure the kids that go won't even notice.

Though i've never actually seen this show...

the biggest problem...even worse than the vulture-like reason for reinstating the EO film, is

that it stinks!

maybe there will be a Whitney Houston ad Davy Jones film coming down the chute :rotfl2::rotfl::lmao::cool1:

As a child of the 80's and a HUGE Michael fan, past and present....I think true fans were and are thrilled to see the show over and over again. I have gone three separate vacations and each time, there is clapping and cheers at the end. My children do not get the show nor are they entertained by it, but I love it and hope they keep it around for awhile longer. BTW: I love some of the responses to the immorality of Disney World...too funny!!!!

The sad part is that the film isn't clear & looks like it did when it was made years ago. It was a complete waste of time. If they are going to keep it, they should re-make it with the standards of hgh quality cinematography.

have been to Captain EO at least a dozen times since they put it back in at Epcot...and the theater has had good-sized audiences every time...nearly full generally (even yesterday afternoon, when Epcot was fairly empty...the theater was nearly full)

And every single time we've seen it, there is plenty of cheering and applause at the end. So while some do not care for the show, they don't seem to be going to it, do they. If you did go to the show, you would see that quite obviously a lot of people do enjoy it...

I'm glad we didn't wait for it last year, it was awful.

I tried to go back to the 80's but it didn't matter. What a waste of time.

I'd say half the people loved it and the other half, like us, did not like it.

Ok, I know this is a bit off-topic, but does anyone know what year Captain EO first debuted? I know most places say it was 1986, but I really find that hard to believe because we saw it when I was a child visiting Disney World and my brother looks so much younger than 6 in the photos (he was born in 1980.) And I also look WAY younger than 9 in the photos! We look more like 6 and 3. This one really confuses me! :confused3

As for the show, I have seen it 3 times now, and I like it, it may be old, but he sure was an intertainer for sure.
As for the op post, this person dosen't have a clue, MJ was a great intertainer, and a friend to all children, people have a way of twisting the facts to make things appear as they want. Do you know how much good MJ did with donating to charites :goodvibes
If you ( OP ) could be even have a touch of the talent that MJ had, try an make a better show.
:scared1:
