Captain America: Civil War (2016)
Opposing political opinions cause a major rift among Earth's Mightiest Heroes and their plight is our gain. Good guys don't always see eye to eye and the Russo Brothers tell the fight among family story almost perfectly. It's a stunning and hero filled masterpiece that has the typical Marvel appropriate action, humor and heart. At times it's tough to watch Cap and Iron Man face off but it's easy to buy the disagreement which has been building for a few chapters now. Amazing special effects surround an outstanding cast. It's not easy to talk about the plot without spoilers but I can say the newer heroes pave the way for a seemingly endless "give me more" kind of future. This Marvel franchise Isn't just a group of great COMIC BOOK movies, they're great FILMS that make you cheer in the theater and leave you exhausted from thrills. Cap 3 continues that trend. If I were to nitpick, I would say the early fight scenes were a little too shaky cam for me but overall, it's crazy good! My ten year old son was enthralled and my seven year old daughter was never bored. Both loved it. BUT, it is pretty violent. Know your audience. We did cover their eyes at certain points in anticipation of more graphic scenes that never really occurred. Thank you Disney/Marvel for another phenomenal Avengers installment! 4 1/5 out of 5 masks.

This is not a movie go in with a full bladder and a big drink.... you want to stay for the full 2 plus hours! Sit down and pick a side!

This might just be my new favorite comic book movie. I have to watch it a few more times like I have rewatched Guardians of the Galaxy, Days of Future Past and the Winter Soldier on cable.

Just watching the journeys of both Cap and IM and the 180 degree directions both of them turned from the first Iron Man and the First Avenger is pretty compelling.

And to have the first real group battle on cinema was jaw dropping. For someone who's been watching from the first movie, this was very satisfying and pushed this series into the next level.

Great movie, for sure! I really like how they included many of the heroes together -- especially Spider-Man. They made him an actual teenager just like in the comics! Love it! Good job, Marvel Studios.

Eh.

I will be the lone dissenter. Spoilers follow. Don't read further if you haven't seen the movie.

Yes, it was good. The action scenes were incredible.

And maybe this is what happened in the comics.

BUT . . . . . . . . . It seemed to me that too many characters had to do an about face to make this movie happen. You have Iron Man, totally against government and government interference, going to the dark side. Capt America, the rule follower, turning against the government. Black Widow with Iron Man, and against Hawkeye and Capt America? Really? Sorry, all of that just didn't play for me.

I think that's the point and something the directors brought up, how Steve and Tony both have done 180 degrees.

In the First Avenger, you had Steve who just wanted to fight for his country and do what he felt was right.

This continues on through the Avengers, where he signs up with Fury's group and follows orders However, he begins to realize that Shield had ulterior methods when he discovers the weapons that they designed with the Tesseract.

In the Winter Soldier, he joins Shield which he admits was because Peggy Carter formed it, he spends 2 years with until he discovers that Shield has been taken over by Hydra. But even before then, he began to have doubts because Fury withheld information with him and the concerns of Project Insight.

Afterwards, he's pretty much just an Avenger until the CW where he has to decide between what he feels is right and what a "Government" says is right.

Iron Man followed a different path.

Through Iron Man 1 and 2, he was very anti-government telling him what to do. By the end of Iron Man 2, Rhodes has one of his suits because he trusts him even though he works for the government. After the events of Age of Ultron, add on his relationship with Pepper ending and that even though he gave up "making weapons" in Iron Man, his weapons/designs are still causing deaths (His creation of Ultron).

His guilt made him choose to stand for the accords.

The movie was suppose to show that neither side was either right or wrong. And Cap throughout the movies had a way of inspiring people to side with him. Hawkeye makes sense. Black Widow obviously in the beginning chose what she felt was more of the conservative side but in the end, had a loyalty to Steve.

Great assessment and wrap up.

Finally saw the movie and I loved it! The only thing that didn't ring true for me was when all of them were initially fighting while at the same time cracking jokes and trash talking. That just didn't sit well with me. It didn't convince me that they were really serious about what side they were on and why?

Also for me, neither Tony or Steve were wrong although I think I understood more where Tony was coming from than Steve. If it wasn't for Bucky being the villian and a long time friend of Steve's, you almost would have thought their stances would have been reversed based on their personalities. Maybe that's just me though but I did enjoy it immensely.

I completely agree. We just saw it today and loved it. I think having Steve and Tony take a different stance than expected made it more interesting. I personally enjoyed the jokes while they were fighting and found them very amusing.

That's typical with comic book fight scenes. You'd think there'd be no time to crack jokes or banter at all when characters are trying to beat the crap out of each other, but it's typical with comic book characters. Even so, it probably seems excessively long in a movie, when on a comic book page it's just a static image.

I thought the movie did a good job of setting up the conflict and showing that the divide wasn't polarizing (unlike in the comic book version of Civil War). Iron Man's side was only trying to prevent Cap's side from getting hurt. They thought they would be better suited for this than if the governments send military after them. They were trying to save their friends, even if that meant knocking them out and dragging them somewhere safe. I love the fact that the characters were still friendly, and that despite the serious subject matter, the movie was still fun (unlike another hero vs. hero movie that came out this year). I see this as a strength of the movie.

Walked out of the film after about 45 minutes. Too long and drawn out with the whole 'they're gonna disband us' nonsense. I wasn't invested enough to care if they broke them up. Maybe I'll catch it again when it hits Neflix. Or else I'll just go pick up a copy for a buck from the little Chinese woman outside my barber shop.
