Capt Puckett on Panama Canal cruises?

He's getting up there in age. But it's a good gig. Make a little money go on a cruise give some preSentations throughout the cruise. People like him DCL likes him I see no reason he won't be back. Think he's around 77. But he looks like he could do this for a few more years if he wants to.

We enjoyed his presentations onboard. He is quite the character in person as well.

We also enjoyed and looked forward to Captain Puckett's talks last May on the Panama Canal Cruise. Very informative and a good sense of humor. Hope he's doing this year's cruises too.

If I recall correctly, our May 2015 sailing was not on his calendar when we booked the trip in Feb 2017, but he was indeed on the cruise ship in May.

We were on the EBPC cruise August 2016 before the Wonder went into dry dock, and we enjoyed Capt Puckett's seminars. I vaguely remember him saying he was no longer going to do the Panama Canal presentations.

We were also on the EBPC last August/September 2016, and I also remember him saying that he would not be doing the Panama Canal presentations for Disney any longer. I felt very lucky to have had him on that cruise. I was even wondering if there was a way for future cruises to have him via video presentation, but of course the New Locks will be an entirely different presentation.

Since this just popped up, I’ll say that he was not on the WBPC this year. We had Dr Richard Costanza. I enjoyed his Panama presentations and I know he ended up volunteering to do several others once we were unable to get more entertainers on board. Several others found Dr C to be rather dry, but I would say he is clearly and academic and did his presentations like that too. Much more about the education than the entertainment value. I enjoyed it but could definitely see how it would not appeal to everyone.

Did you experience any PC cruises previously to compare/contrast the two presenters? Not judging your comments, just wondering about your context. We were on the EBPC a number of years ago and the presentation was more academic even then, so trying to ascertain if the statement is more about the material and presentation or a direct comparison of the presenters.

No, this was my first PC. I was just trying to characterize the presenter in general by indicating his demeanor and content. I read Captain Puckett’s book and, based on his writing style, assumed his presentations would have been a little more personal and not so analytical. Dr C was excellent, but he had no clear personal relationship to the content. Much more like my history professor in college teaching about the scientific revolution.

I was on the recent WBPC and also on the 2016 EBPC with Captain Puckett. I will say that Dr. C was (as mentioned previously) more like a lecturing professor and his comments during the canal transit were brief and spaced out. He would come on for 5-7 minutes maybe 5 or 6 times during the transit. I remember Capt. P being much more verbose a lot more frequently. He knows every bend in the Canal and had a story or anecdote about most of it.

Not saying Dr. C wasn't good - and we all appreciated him being there and the extra sessions he did. But I'd take Capt. P any day.

That said, we had heard from someone on Facebook (so it must be true...) that a family member of Capt P had said he was getting too old to do these and his health wasn't what it had been. They were uncertain whether he would continue to do them in the future or not. I hope he's well, but would love to see him back again!

IIRC he was one of the featured presenters on our canal cruise. Absolutely fascinating, I could have listened to him for hours. We all must retire someday, and if he is leaving then Godspeed to someone who enriched our lives.
