If you had to choose just one of those, which restaurant would you choose for a Friday eveing dinner (our last night of vacation in June)? I have ADRs for Raglan already, but Capn Jacks sounds yummy as well and I've read a few bad reviews of Raglan lately.

Also, does anyone know if you can get the lobster tails on the ddp at Capn Jacks or is that excluded?

Any advice would be great!

I think I prefer Raglans personally. I am an Irish pub kind of girl though. I love the atmosphere in Raglans. Last time I was in there on a Friday they had a Celtic band playing. That made me happy.

Take a good look at the menus and decide what it is you really want. They are completely different restaurants from each other. If I did not live so close by perhaps I would honestly choose Jacks.

We at at Capn Jack's last year and were very disappointed with the food. I have never been to Raglan Road. I guess if it were me, I would look at both menus and decide which one has more stuff to appeal to myself and my kids and go from there.

we very much enjoyed our meal at CJ's (including lobster tails :thumbsup2 ).

the food at RR is "just okay", IMHO, but the entertainment is phenomenal!! i would pick RR just b/c they have such talented performers ~ but we think the food is just to keep all the stomach rumbles from drowning out the talent :thumbsup2

btw, we've seen/heard both the band (with irish dancer), as well as the soloist......we'll prob skip PI next time, & sit at the RR bar (just DH & self)

hth :thumbsup2

This is an easy question for us! Raglan Road has become one of our favorite dining spots in Disney-and we will never return to Cap' N' Jacks. JOHO! ;)

CJ's is okay when you get to DTD, want TS and can't get in anywhere.... I prefer the food at RR although the service lately- i think they fly the food in from Ireland and that may be why it takes so long.

We were very disappointed in Raglan Road. The service was really bad and we really didn't care for the food. We have a son with food allergies and they were totally unhelpful. I realize now that this is probably because it is not owned by Disney, but the difference between the way we were treated at other restaurants in WDW with the food allergies and Raglan Road was striking and disturbing. They first were like "oh well, I guess we have nothing for him" then when we did find somethign they could serve him, we had to send it back because they brought it out with something we didn't order and that he could not eat touching the stuff he could eat. :confused3
We haven't been to Cap'n Jacks, but we won't go back to Raglan Road.

We ate a Capatin Jacks twice. Both times the food was awful. We will not return again.

As far as lobster tails, I do believe they are on the DDP.

Have a great trip!

It amazes me that so many people can have such differing opinions of the same place. I'm sure it has much to do with the kind of food you are used to.
We ate at both places within days of each other in September. Of the two, Cap'n Jacks was the better for me. A brief wine-fueled review of each:
We ate at Cap'n Jacks on arrival day. We were starved.
We ordered (and sampled each others):
Appetizers:
Crab cakes: Hands-down the best I have ever had. They were tender and crunchy and the flavor was out-of-this-world.
Shrimp cocktail: Very fresh, huge meaty shrimp. Very good.
Mixed green salad: We were at WDW, on the Dining plan, and the chick ordered a salad...it was a salad!
Entrees:
Twin lobster tails: Smallish, but tender and sweet. The sides were also good.
Very impressed, considering we were on the DDP.
Chicken Alfredo: Very good as well. Rich sauce, nicely herbed.
Desserts:
White Choc Raspberry Cheesecake: Very yummy.
Double Choc cake with ice cream: OMG. I am the idiot that ordered cheesecake, and I coveted the other two's desserts.
Drinks:
Blue Glowtini: Pretty good.
Fuzzy Captain: WOW. Just Wow.
Service: Seated immediately and the server showed up every time we needed something.

Raglan Road:
Soda Bread with Dipping Oil: Very tasty.
Appetizers:
Drunk Chicken: Good but not great.
Scallop Forest: Scallops were not as hot as they could have been and a little (just a little) soggy.
Dalkey Duo: Excellent!!! Worth going back for!
Entrees:
Kevin's Heavenly Ham: Good. Interesting flavor.
Paddy's Pork: didn't care for the stuffing.
Serious Sirloin: A bit tough and a little gristly. Subbed Colcannon for the mashed potatoes and I wasn't impressed, but as I said I am from the midwest so used to cabbage cooked in bacon. Disappointed with my entree.
Dessert:
Gar's Bread Pudding: Think of the best sex you ever had (sorry). This was better. We all got it, thank goodness, as none of us would have shared.
Service: waited 20 minutes in a drizzle to be seated, though there were plenty of tables empty. Server showed up about ten minutes after we needed him, every time.

Of the two, CJ was the favorite, though I will probably revisit RR just for the bread pudding.

Ragland Road is our new favorite restaurant...have not been to CJs in many years.

I wrote a review on Raglan on the review board, if you would like to check it out.

For my DH and I we really loved Ragland Road. The menu had so many choices for apps, main and desert! CJ's was good but its wasn't great and they don't have alot of choices. I enjoyed the pasta with lobster sauce, while my dh liked his lobster tails but wasn't thrilled with them. Its really about what you like though. Look through the menu's at Allearsnet and it one looks better then the other try that one and then try the other one next time you go!

definately Raglan Road, we went when it first opened and my opinion was very low of it then, and we returned sept 2007 and it was really good (on DDP) so much so we rebooked for the next week and paid (OOP) and it was by far the best meal we had in our 3 week stay,.

Definately on the plan for our next trip

We ate at Raglan Road in October and we loved it. The food was great, the service was good and the entertainment was outstanding.
We haven't been to CJ's in years. It was an early (late 80's) favorite of ours, but our last 2 trips (years ago now) were such disappointments, we haven't been back. Perhaps it is time to try again, but the menu hasn't been that appealing.

Which would you prefer Dinner or lunch at Raglan Road? We really like Irish Pubs.
