Hi all - just got back last Friday - wow, our two week vacation flew by it seems. Anyhow, I'm currently working on my full trippie, but wanted to post here about our character breakfast at Cape May.
A little background - we were at OKW for two weeks, and my DD (14) Brooke had brought her BFF Jamie (14) - it was Jamie's first trip. We always buy groceries to save $$ and enjoy time at our villa, so I rarely book ADR's. Especially since we were there during free dining. I did however want to do something special for Jamie's first time, so I thought a character breakfast would be the way to go. Breakfasts are generally cheaper than dinner, and we all love breakfast food. Plus, Jamie is a vegetarian, so I thought she'd have more choices at a breakfast buffet.
I didn't tell the girls about it at all. I booked it a couple months before our trip for mid-way into our vacation and later in the morning (10:20 a.m. on a Sunday). The girls like to sleep in, and I thought a big breakfast would carry them through lunch as well.
So on the night before the breakfast, I informed them I had a surprise for both of them, and we would be going to Epcot in the morning and had to leave by 9 am at the latest. My plan was to take a bus from OKW to Epcot and walk through Epcot to the International Gateway and do the quick walk from there to the Beach Club. This actually worked out great.
The morning arrived, we actually got out the door on time. I even let them have a piece of toast and juice so as not to give away what I was doing. I had my tea and toast as well, since I knew I wouldn't last until 10am for my tea. We got to Epcot around 9:40 a.m., so I made them high tail it to Soarin for fastpasses. It was a gorgeous warm and clear day, and the park wasn't busy at all. The wait for Soarin was only ten minutes, and the girls wanted to ride it and also get fastpasses. I had to tell them I had an appointment in half an hour for us and we had to get moving. They were very confused, but got the fastpasses and then tried to keep up with me as I walked quickly to International Gateway. As soon as we left Epcot, my daughter knew we were going to breakfast somewhere, but she didn't tell me until we got to the Beach Club and saw the sign. "I knew it " she said.
It was busy at the podium - I checked us in 10 min. early, and we were given a pager. We were paged at our ADR time and seated right away. The girls were very excited, especially when they saw the characters. We were served fresh orange juice and our drink orders were taken (we can get chocolate milk too????). Then we were off to our first plates. Here's mine:
I loooove crispy bacon, and let me just say - breakfast pizza rules!!!!
With Jamie being a vegetarian, she still managed to pack away four plates of food, including lots of fresh fruit, eggs and bagels.
Here's my second plate :
And here are some of our character photos - truly wonderful experience
Brooke my DD is in the Mickey shirt
The characters were great - very attentive, even signed a teenager's home-made autograph book and gave us plenty of their time. We had fun, the food was great, it wasn't overly crowded getting the food or getting to our table, and I would recommend it to anyone.
HOUSE OF BLUES
This is somewhere I have walked past several times, but never ate there. It was our last full day at Disney on September 3, and I met DH in front of Disney Quest at 5pm. We had planned on grabbing a bite somewhere after meeting, maybe our favourite Wolfgang Puck Express or the Earl of Sandwich. But while I was waiting for him, since the OKW ferry had dropped me off beside it, I decided to look over the House of Blues menu to kill time. I was surprised at the offerings and the decent prices, so I showed it to DH when he met me. We decided to give it a try. Here's me:
The inside is amazing, I wish I took pictures - so eclectic and neat, and we got a nice huge booth to sit at. It wasn't busy at all. Our waiter was awesome (thank you Tom!). We each got a side of their specialty cornbread, served with maple butter - it was really good. DH got the turkey club sandwich with fries - it was wonderful, and their fries were awesome.
Here's what's left of what I had - sorry I forgot to take more pictures, we were enjoying ourselves too much.
Their brick oven pizza was wonderfully yummy, and my DD scarfed down the rest of it when I took it back to our villa (so filling and I ate some of DH's fries too).
All in all really good, would recommend you give it a try if you're looking for something different and out of the way.
