Ds seems to be developing a sensitivity (i.e. itchy mouth) to shell fish (crap!). Pediatrician sez to try small amounts periodically???

Wanted to do Cape May dinner buffet. He won't eat fish (unless it's tuna in a can), salad, ribs or mac & cheese.

See that "chicken tenders" are available on kids buffet. Are they the standard ones you find throughout the world? Do they have french fries?

Realize that you can make special arrangements for allergies but, don't feel they're required @ this point...based on Ped.'s agreement. The CM I spoke to said they'd have to note our reservation & all his meals would need to be prepared sep. by the Chef @ each restaurant. Ped. sez this isn't nec. and, in our case, seems excessive as he's a meat & potatoe kind of kid anyway.

We'll be on the dining plan...can I bring in carry-out food from another rest (tacky, I know); or feed him first and still probably get charged for his meal.

TIA

i have a son w/food allergies also... personally, i would not take the chance on cross-contamination... even if the ped says "try small amts periodically" there's no way i'd risk it on vacation...

Would be nice to know if he does have a "real" allergy or not...will have to pin down Ped. as to any testing avail. From what I understand allergies can get worse each time you're exposed.

absolutely... a lot of food allergies are "cumulative" meaning that each exposure makes them more severe... and exposure does not have to be by ingestion (at least for my ds) but rather cross-contamination, inhaling (i.e. the steam from the shrimp being cooked at a japanese steakhouse caused a reaction in my niece), touching, etc...

is there any way you could get your ds in to see an allergist? my son had a ton of tests done to find out what he was truly "allergic" to and what he was simply "sensitive" to...

again, i would not take my chances on vacation...

I am also allergic to shellfish. I found this out by touching shrimp and blowing up like a balloon. However when I had my test it was very minor. The allergist said it is an allergy that comes and goes and NOT to chance it. I am also having the same problem because I am trying to decide if I want to chance it or tell all my ADR's about the allergy. I would never even try a small piece of any shellfish just to test it. That is just asking for trouble.
