Wondering if any of you had tried the clambake at the Cape May Cafe? Am interested in going this summer, but not everyone eats seafood. Looking for pros/cons as well as if there were other items besided seafood there. Also, how does the dinner work-is it buffet ?

Thanks in advance for your help! :)

I went in March and was disappointed. This was a restaurant that had previously been one of my favorites, but it seems like it's gone downhill. It is a buffet, but there were no longer as many selections as in other visits. Just mussels rather than mussels & steamers, the salad bar wasn't as abundant as before. They do have other things besides seafood, but it's not as large a selection as the buffets at 1900 Park Faire or Chef Mickey's. The desserts were awesome though! I was much happier with the buffet at Boma at AKL - that had lots of choices, the food was very fresh and the staff was terrific.

I was just there in Feb. I'm very disappointed they no longer have clams. DH will not want to go there again. We have always liked it, but from what Lisa says seems they have changed since our last visit.

We went there last May. Probably won't bother going again for a few years. My dd15 wanted to order crab legs off the menu but they didn't have any (that was her sole reason for wanting to go) so she ended up peeling shrimp and eating chicken tenders! She was not impressed at all. Amazingly, I was not happy either! *I* ended up eating the chicken tenders also because there was not much of a selection. In my opinion, there are too many places to go to be less than happy with Cape May!

I'll have to say that my family just tried this restaurant a couple of weeks ago for the first time and ALL 5 of us LOVED it!! (we very rarely ever agree on a restaurant so that's telling you something!) My DH is NOT a seafood person, but he still found PLENTY to eat - his favorites were the bque ribs & the beef. My 2 oldest sons and I gorged ourselves on clams (yes! they DID have clams) - they were the best we've ever eaten, even though they were SMALL (up in the Northeast the necks are bigger than the clam itself so these "little-neckers" were a great treat for us). Plus the garlicy sauce they were cooked in was delicious! Mussels were great too, done in some sort of a tomato-based sauce. Even my pickey 6 year old found plenty to eat here at the kids' buffet. And the desserts were wonderful - especially the chocolate bon bon dessert! If I had known, I would have saved more room for dessert! :) This will definately be a place we come back to on future trips.

We were there two weeks ago too! We ate a lot of them clams and tons of peel and eat shrimp. We also were treated to a tour of the dessert table by one of the CMs from the kitchen who explained all the desserts. The Oreo Cookie Bon Bon was the Bomb!:teeth:

Went in late June last year and every member of my DF loved it. I must have eaten 300 clams myself, and DS and DD #1 went hog wild over the clams and mussels. There is something for everyone and I'm sure you will enjoy it. Our family will be back there on 7/22/04.

I haven't been to Cape May yet but I'm wondering if the times there were no clams...and no crab legs......was because they were out of season. Seafood is difficult to get so perhaps certain selections weren't offered because what was available didn't meet the quality they wanted to serve. Just MHO.

I have been to CMC twice; in March and October 2003. Both times I thoroughly enjoyed it. It is a buffet and it's set up as a big square- on one side is salads; one side is hot land-lubber dishes like bbqed pork ribs, baked chicken, rice, steamed veggies, rice with baby shrimp in it, a beef stir fry; the next side had carved meat (prime rib both times we visited) and a huge mountain of rolls. (in between the previous two sides was the kid's area- chicken tenders, mac and cheese, mini hot dogs and fish nuggets); the 4th side has the clams, mussels, baked fish (salmon both times we were there), corn, roasted potatoes and clam chowder. There is a separate, to die for dessert bar towards the entrance of the restaurant that included cheesecake, key lime pie, chocolate cake, apple crumble with whipped cream, tortes, cookies, and the first time we went, donuts (krispy kreme so I was told). Plus the Oreo bon bons! YUM! We were very pleased both visits- ate a lot of food, it was clean, well staffed, and the food was very tasty and plentiful. The only reason I can think "cape may cafe CLAMbake" would be out of clams was because either they ran out (major oops) or as someone else mentioned, they were not able to get an order through...

This is always a must do on our visits to WDW. Not all of us are seafood lovers, but we always manage to find many things that we love. :wave2:
