We are going for the first time next month. I love all kinds of shrimp and that has been about it. I don't live near any kind of seafood restaurant. I would like to try some different things. I hope I don't sound really dumb, but tell me about eating clams and mussels. Like how are they presented? How do you eat them? Pretend I am from another country and describe them to me.
:goodvibes

The littleneck clams and mussels are steamed and served with plain drawn butter or taragon garlic butter. When they are steamed the pop open and you take a little fork, pluck out the meat and dip in butter, then eat. I do not like them at all, they are like little chewy blech balls but my DH is addicted to them and has been able to sit at a table and put away 10 dozen or more..his family grew up on them.

The shrimp are peel and eat, chilled

The fish that was there in Feb was poached salmon

The fish that was there in March was fried talapia

This is one of our favorite places to eat and I am not a seafood person..the food there is very good.

I just bought ten pounds of clams......they are in the shells and were delicious.....if you go and they have steamers on the buffet.....you take some out and open them up......you take the neck and peel the black thing off it.....and it may look like a dark thread on the side of the clam.....that comes off too.....you dip that in butter and it is delicious.....may be a little messy but it is so good..

The shrimp have a slight shell on them and you peel that off and dip that in cocktail sauce.....another delicious item....these will be on ice when you pick them.....but not on your plate......try different things....you may love them like we do....

We have found the clams and mussels to be over cooked and tasteless. The other food is OK but not great. You need to give the restaurant and food a try to decide for yourself.

I had never tried mussels until I ate at the Cape May Clambake. I really liked them, but they were a bit chewy. I'm a big seafood lover so I really enjoyed the entire meal. I love all seafood, including oysters (even raw!!) so keep that in mind. Both my girls love shrimp and cooked oysters, and they liked them, but didn't love them. There are also many other items on the menu if youdo happen to not enjoy them.

I have always been curious-What do my fellow New Englanders think of The Cape May Clam Bake? :confused3

I lived in Boston (20 minutes from Gloucester, Essex, Ipswich) and there is nothing like the shellfish, cod and haddock from those local restaurants. I love some seafoods but steamers, mussels, oysters etc gross me out.

I like the Cape May because of all the other items on the buffet...not the seafood! The atmostphere is really cute too

I was amazed at the people carrying plates piled a MILE high with clams or mussels :lmao: ! Its worth going just to see that. Of course my DH was one of them :goodvibes .

Thanks. I will at least try them. Now, I can eat my weight in peel and eat shrimp and I can't wait for those. The first thing I hit at a buffet is the peel em and eat em.

You will not be disappointed there.
