Got a great Marriott government rate for around $100/night to stay here. Plan on staying 3 nights before our WDW vacation. Is the beach OK? How is Cape Canaveral? Going in August for the day. Is there anywhere there to get away from the heat? How is it for 13 year olds and a 7 year old?

Is there anywhere there to get away from the heat?

Stay inside! Sorry, I couldn't resist. Anywhere outside in August is going to be hot and muggy. And probably rainy in the mid-afternoon.

Which Marriott property do you mean? The Courtyard Cocoa Beach/Cape Canaveral is not directly on the beach, but it's a short walk. The Residence Inn Cape Canaveral/Cocoa Beach is would require a drive to the beach.

How is Cape Canaveral?

Cape Canaveral can mean different things to different people. Are you referring to the City of Cape Canaveral, the Kennedy Space Center/Cape Canaveral Air Force Station complex, or the Canaveral National Seashore (US Park)?

Instead of creating a new thread, I thought I'd just revive this one, since my questions are similar.

Has anyone been to Kennedy Space Center recently? I'm thinking of going in early June with my 9-year old daughter and 12-year old son. Neither are space nuts, but anything "cool" will catch there attention. Is one day enough? What are the must-see attractions? Where is a good place to stay? I am considering the Residence Inn mentioned by PP, but am also interested in any recommendations directly on the beach.

Thanks in advance!

One day is enough provided you arrive near opening time.

When you pay the entrance money you would be given good advice on what to do first

Go to Imax Cinema , but on the way enjoy the rockets as you pass .

Then take the free bus to the Main attraction the retired shuttle .

You will be tired by closing time.

Return to Orlando

BUT

There are good motels at Titusville & loads by Cocoa Beach ...... Look out for Ron Jon's Huge surf / sports shop.

Then take the free bus to the Main attraction the retired shuttle.

Just a point of clarification: The Atlantis exhibit is located at the main KSC Visitor Complex. It is located adjacent to the bus tour unloading area. As such, it tends to be busier later in the day when the majority of guests are returning from the bus tour.

We spent a day at Cocoa Beach and a day at Kennedy Space Center a few years ago. At the time, our daughters were 11 & 14 -- one loves science and the other can take it or leave it, but they both really enjoyed the space center. There was a lot to see and do (but you can do everything in one full day). I definitely recommend it.

The beach is great -- but then again, I live in Illinois so any beach is great to me. LOL! There were chairs & umbrellas available to rent for the day, so that was nice.

We loved the science films in the theater at the Space Center. We were also able to see the Hollywood film Star Trek when we were there years ago. The iMax theater is awesome. Check to see what is playing during your trip.

We always go to the restaurant Dixie Crossroads in Titusville. It is old Florida at its best. Get the broiled rock shrimp that tastes like lobster.
