Can't wait to get dressed up! Places for cheap dresses anyone?

Was in Ross' yesterday and even though don't have a cruise coming up couldn't resist a gorgeous black dress with pink crystal beading. It was tagged $20, but rang up for $7!!!!! :earseek: Was so excited, will put in closet till next cruising adventure.

Another vote for Chadwicks -- either the catalog or online. I have had some trouble with their customer service, but would recommend them overall. They also have Jessica London - a lot of the same clothes in sizes 14 and up.

Also, if you are fortunate to have a Talbot's outlet near you, it's worth a look. Beautiful clothes and great deals. I know there is one in Springfield, Virginia, Charlotte, NC, and Cockeysville, MD. You can check talbots.com for other locations.

How many dress-up dresses are necessary for a 7-night Western? I know there is one formal night -- dh will wear tux, I have a long skirt with a beaded jacket and velvet dresses for our 10-year old girls. What about the rest of the week?

Don't know if you have a "Ross" in NJ, but I have found that to be a wonderful resource...you do have to allow several visits...you can't expect to find something on your first visit, although you might, don't expect it. I LOVE Ross! Also, and I know this sounds gross/tacky, etc, don't forget to try Goodwill. That's where I have taken countless formal gowns. Sniff out your local consignment shops. Formal wear usually gets sold/hauled off way before it is in bad shape. Hope you find lots of resources here

I got my long, plum Coldwater Creek dress in the Salvation army Thrift store for 20$ and I don't think it had ever been worn!

Hi there,
I recently had to purchase a formal dress for my company Christmas party. I went to Burdines-Macy's just to look and ended up geting a dress at 80% off. It had no indication of being on sale along with many others I picked up and the only way I found out was by scanning the price tag! What a great deal.Good luck and have fun on the cruise.

Surprisingly enough, I found a very nice (and reasonable priced) dress for a formal wedding reception at FredricksofHollywood.com !! I actually found it as I was shopping for the Bachelorette party gift!! They also have plus sizes there which are often hard to find in formal wear.

I am a plus size gal myself and had great luck at the JCPenny Outlet, Dillards, Famous Barr, etc. I found my perfect dress at David's Bridal on their clearance rack...a $130 dress for $20. Merlot (red) shatung silk with a square neckline, tank style with a straight skirt. It was perfect until I went to get it altered down a size...and the square neckline would not alter well...so I ended up with the dress from JCP.

I have purchased ALL of my last 4 formal gowns and dressy dresses on EBAY! They were all brand new and beautiful! One still had the original price on it from a bridal shop and it was $465.00 -- I got it for $53.00 on EBAY.

I also bought my DH's tux on EBAY and this past Christmas, I got him a Mickey Mouse vest and tie on EBAY for him to wear when we go on our Magic Cruise in July.

I swear by EBAY!!! :Pinkbounc

I won the dress on Ebay! Here it is:
eBayISAPI.dll

I never thought this thread would be as popular as it is. I hope that lots of people have found the information helpful.

I bought a really cute black dress at Group USA today. It was $45. There were lots of choices and colors. I also found matching earrings for $5.99. When I lived in the midwest, I loved Gantos for dresses and coordinating jewelry.

I bought a dress from Value City last year for 25.00. It was basic black and looked very elegant on. You can try ebay also. They usually have quite a selection to bid on.

Princess Snow, I live near Chicago and too loved Gantos. They have been gone from our area for quite some time now.

jordgubben, what a beautiful dress!

Did Gantos go out of business? I LOVED that store when I lived in Kansas City. I found such classy dresses for high school and college formals. Their matching jewelry always had great sales too. I miss that place.

Aside from checking the local consignment shops, anyone know of any place on the web to get a good deal on a dress?

you might try e-bay. they often have good options there!

Hear Hear!!! I am also an ebay dress shopper. For our last cruise in Nov 04' I found both the girls and my dress on ebay for super cheap. All three dresses retailed for $700 and all I paid was $200 and that included shipping.

Macys has some good sales going on right now. Near me they had a rack of dresses for 39.99 + 15% off and 59.99 plus 15% off. Of course, I found a dress on the higher price rack!!! But I really like it and it even looked decent on my post-pregnancy body. It will look even better on my post-WeightWatchers body-- now I'm more motivated than ever to take off the weight!!!

Okay-this is a dress for my dd6, but I did just buy it on sale! It was from disney store (disneydirect now) and was a sleeveless velvet christmas dress for our Dec. Magic cruise this year! I waited till after Christmas and bought it on sale.
There is a site called alldresses.com that has some great dresses too.
