Can't log into Chase!

Thanks for reminding me that I need to go there today. Go to the website and it says on the left website temporarily unavailable, check back later.

I know, frustrating! I went to log in this AM and pay my bill but no dice.

Anyone else having this problem? I can't log into online banking....just lovely! :badpc:

I know!!!!! :headache:

I made a really large deposit on Friday so that I could PAY OFF my credit cards. All of them. And Chase held most of the deposit until TODAY, so I couldn't pay anything until this morning. I started trying to log in at 4:30 a.m., and it said that it was planned site maintenance. Now it says that the site is "temporarily unavailable."

Of course this would happen the day I want to pay off my cards. Sigh.

I'm not sure if they are doing an update or fixing a technical issue but they took the site down.

I had a situation with a banking site being down once when I needed to make a payment. I called the phone number on the card and they waived the fee they normally charged for doing a payment by phone. If you have to make the payment today give them a call and see if they will do the same. I also believe you can make a payment at a Chase branch if you have one close. I imagine if they charge an in branch fee they may wave it because the site is down.

I sure do miss Wamu. I hate the way your checks don't post til the next business day and their overdraft is now reallly confusing. And yes we use it from time to time as my DH is on straight commission so it is hard to set a budget for the month not knowing what you will get paid.

Who does planned maintenance for a bank site in the middle of a business day? It may have started as planned, but it has obviously extended well beyond their planned window. Unless something extraordinary has happened, someone should be getting fired over this. There are too many options for doing maintenance with little or no downtime to do something this stupid. I think an IT manager needs to be sent to hike the Iran/Iraq border.

I wonder if they'll waive overdraft fees for this? I've used the site to move money from saving to checking to avoid overdrafts in the past. I can easily see someone not being able to do so because the site is down and getting charged for the "overdraft protection" they wouldn't have needed if the bank provided expected services.

Of course I don't have my Chase credit cards in my wallet or any of my routing numbers so even if I wanted to make a phone payment, I'd have to go home....what a hassle. And actually I tried to log on last night via their mobile website and it said unavailable then, so I have a feeling the problem started LAST night. Online banking unavailable during the middle of a business day is TOTALLY unacceptable! Come on this is 2010!

It started last night. I tried to move some money from one acct to another and it was down.

This morning I went to the bank and they successfully transfered it (I can get my balance via text msg) and then I shopped at Target and sent for a txt again and it had already deducted from my account. It seems like the system itself is not down, just the online login.

I have a feeling this is more than just a technical issue...the site has actually been down since last night. Sure hope my customer data is safe! I find it hard to believe that such a large bank would not have a backup. This is ridiculous.

This is starting to worry me a bit....,being down almost a whole day?! Not good. I did call Chase today & make a CC payment but no explanation as to why it was down.

Chase online banking services still down

By Kathy Bergen
Posted today at 3:48 p.m.

Chase bank customers have been unable to conduct business online since Monday night, an uncommonly-long stretch of down time.

The online sites for retail banking and credit card transactions have been down due to technical problems, according to Tom Kelly, a spokesman for parent company JPMorgan Chase & Co.

“It’s an eternity in the online world,” said Jacob Jegher, a senior analyst with Celent, a Boston-based financial services research and consulting firm.

Chase declined to comment on the cause of the problem. In the absence of information, speculation is swirling on Twitter and on online message boards.

The possibilities are many, said Jegher. “It could be a security and fraud issue, or it could be more basic, a technical glitch.”

Kelly offered assurances that customers’ personal information and bank balances remain secure.

At the moment, the biggest issue for customers seems to be an inability to pay bills online, Jegher said.

“If you’re a last-minute person in terms of paying your bills . . . you’ll be unable to do it,” he said. “The implications are late payments and fees.”

Chase will be willing to work with customers who run into these sorts of problems, Kelly said. “Whatever the issue is, we’re happy to talk with them,” he said.

Chase, the nation’s second-largest bank, is urging customers to conduct their transactions at a branch or by phone, at 800-935-9935. Its ATMs are operating normally as well. The bank does not charge its customers fees for transactions at a teller station, by phone or at an ATM, Kelly said.

The bank did not have an estimate as to when the problem would be fixed. Chase has 16.5 million customers who use its online services.

Larger banks have made a massive push to encourage customers to conduct business online, both because it’s less costly for the bank and because it’s a convenience for the customer, Jegher said.

And customers have grown to rely on the service for many functions, such as checking on account balances. The Chase outage “is an interruption of their day-to-day process,” Jegher said.

Still down. I wanted to pay off my credit card before vacation tomorrow.

I have a credit card due tomorrow. At least I know it isn't just me.

We've had a production server crash before so I feel their pain. In our case our disaster recovery plan didn't go as well as it did during testing because, unfortunately, testing and needing it to take over an actual production load aren't the same. We weren't down a whole day but longer then we would have liked.

I feel sorry for their I.T. department, I know what it was like and it is not fun.
