Can't get there in time

If the rumor turns out to be fact and the dates for FD do run until September 30, 2009, I am really bummed out. Soonest I can actually check in is October 1, 2009. Here is my question: would Disney allow me to book beginning with 09/30/09 and allow me to get dining plan for remainder of my 8 day stay although I wouldn't physically check in until 10/01/09? It would still be worth it to pay the cost of the room for an extra night to get free dining but would disney actually allow this? I would be paying for a value room an extra night but would save about $1400.00 on dining plan!!

You mean get free dining? If the promotion dates end on September 30 and you check in on October 1, you cannot get free dining if those are the paramaters of the promotion. If you book your stay starting 9/30 but you don't check in on 9/30 I would imagine you would lose the entire reservation.

would you actually "lose" the reservation when it would all be paid for in advance, though? On the package deals, you have to pay in full 45 days before arrival, so don't think you'd lose the reservation by not being there that day - the room is paid for, they won't give it to someone else.

Really, if you think about it - what about people that actually are travel- delayed (miss a flight or get a flight cancelled) and then can't get there for scheduled check-in day. Like say your flight's not scheduled to get in until 9:00 p.m., anyway, so you're not expecting to get there until 11 or so...then your flight is cancelled & you can't get in until the next morning. I don't think people in that situation lose their reservation because they weren't there in time. I guess I would check into this more, it might work.

If they checked in after midnight on October 1 but before 11 AM it might work. (Not sure about the 11 AM. I do not know when the hotels no longer consider it to be the night of September 30 and release the reservation. You could probably check in at least by 2 AM because I have done that before - not to get dining though.)

Is there any way someone could arrive the day before to make sure that you get the Free Dining?

I would hate to miss the Free Dining, just because you can't get there until the first. I know some people reported that at check in they asked to see everyone on the reservation before they would give the KTTW cards.
