Is trading for a Disney cruise prohibitively expensive, like trading for the moderate and deluxe resorts, or is there a set points cost depending on the type of stateroom? (If there is a set cost, is there a chart?)

The cost of points change each year. You can check this year's point on the DVC Member site. If you are not a member, I'm sure you could call and ask for a guide to send them to you. But they vary depending on type of cruise, time of year, and what catagory.

I think the consensus on these boards is that yes, the cruises are expensive points wise. There are different amounts for each person in different staterooms, the point charts are on th website (for members) under the Disney Collection. We are using our points to take a cruise this year, but that is because we just bought in in November, and we received builders points as well as 2007 points with the 2008 points- giving us a huge amount all at once, when we weren't planning on going to WDW in 2008. So for us, this time it seemed to make sense to use the points. Hope this helps-

You can usually do the cruise more cheaply for cash than you can using points.

Using points for the cruises isn't a good value for your points unless like me you mess up and could lose quite a few points unless you use them - we took the NYEs 7 night this past December and for the three of us it was over 900 points for a Catagory 6 balcony stateroom. Just my two cents worth.

But we sure had a blast!
