Cant Find my sons birth certificate for Travel...HELP!

We fly out tomorrow and my son is 22 months, so we did not buy him a plane ticket because he is under two.

We are flying on Southwest. Any ideas, do they ask for proof of age all the time?

Do you have a certificate of immunizations, a daycare or any other place that photocopied your kid's certificate?

Another alternative could be to write a statement saying you misplaced the child's certificate but he was indeed born on such and such a date, and go to a notary public to have it sworn and signed. It makes it a legal document they may take. AAA provides notaries for free

I'd buy another birth certificate as soon as possible, I don't even recall where you get the copies.

We flew Southwest when our DD was 20 months. They didn't ask for anything.

The town hall where your child was born can give you a copy
on the spot if you really want one.

It looks like unofficial copies can be faxed.

Otherwise, do you have a baptismal certificate that gives a clue about age.

If you are traveling within the U.S., I'm not sure that you need to have ID for your child. I would give the airline a call and ask them what the current regulations are.

If you are flying domestically you don't need any ID for your son. Anyone under the age of 18 isn't required to produce ID. No worries. But if you'd like to get another copy an easy way is by logging onto www.vitalchek.com and click on your state.

that a "lap" child is actually under age 2,
especially if he appears older. If you cannot
prove age, they will sometimes require you to
buy the child a ticket. If your child is a little on
the large side, I'd try to be sure that you have
something with you that shows his age.

Southwest is very nice about it, usually, though,
so I don't think they would insist on an actual birth
certificate, as long as you had something relatively
official-looking that had a birthdate on it. Sometimes
health insurance cards have birthdates on them, so
that might work. Otherwise, I'd try to get an unofficial
copy faxed from vital records.
