Hi!

We will be in WDW Dec 19 - 29th. It would be nice to have a car for the whole trip, but when I search for rates it is outrageous! All prices have been around 600.00.

Now we don't really need a car until the second day since we are going to Universal Studios, we can do Magical Express to get to the hotel and back to the airport. But it would be easier to have the car from the get go.

Is there anyway I can get a reasonable rate? We will be AAA members for the trip.

I would appreciate any help.

Thanks!

We are driving to Disney in December of this year. We are coming from Roanoke, VA and driving down. I'm renting a mini van from Avis for one week. Its gonna cost close to $700.00 for that week that includes the AAA rate. The miliage is 2000 miles and they charge you per mile after that. Its gonna take us about 1600 miles to get there and back. We will probably use Disney Transporation while we are there if we can. They were the cheapest I could find. Enterprise and Budget had good rates, but the miliage was like up to 1000 mile limit. So Avis was a better deal for us.

i went last dec 17 thru the 24th
we booked in august and it was high but it kept coming down and ende du punder 170
book now and keep checking the rates it will come down try multiple codes
you can get codes at www.mousesavers.com
we used national they picked us up at pop with there shuttle took us to the car care center next to MK took less than 20 minutes
what kind of car are you looking for, what r the dates and times you need it

I've found the earlier you book the higher the price... even at about 60 days out from my June trip the prices I was getting for a minivan was around $1200 for 10 days, just last week I rebooked for $366 (the 3rd time I've rebooked)!

Good luck!

Wow! that is a big difference. I think I will wait, I have lots of time left.

It's the 'three extra days' that's killing you. If you just rent for 7 days.. (from say Alamo with a Mastercard discount) -- you can rent an SUV for 299.00 for a week. You might want to consider using Magical Express to get to your hotel and then going over to the car care center outside of the Magic Kingdom to pickup a rental car for just 7 days and then return it on the 7th day and go without a vehicle the final three days.

I would not count on a rate decrease. You are going to be there at the PEAK OF PEAK season. Quite simply the 10 days you've picked are the BUSIEST of the year in Orlando and at Disney. It JUST doesn't get much busier than the week you will be there. So that may explain the rental pricing.

You might want to reserve *something* for now and you can always cancel it later if a better deal comes along.

I would also book something for now.

I booked in February for this Dec 16 - Jan 6 (21 day rental). I have several car rentals since I may be flying into/out of either MCO or TPA.

3 week rental Dec 16/06 - Jan 6/07

Pick up MCO - D/O MCO (THANKS ROBIN B for helping me find this rental)
Thrifty - mid size no code: $488US

Pick up MCO - D/O TPA
Dollar - compact - no code $536 US

Pick up TPA - D/O MCO
National - compact - AMEX code $572 US
National - SUV - CAA code $526 US

Pick up TPA - D/O TPA
National - Emerald club code 5007125- SUV $548 US
National - compact - CAA code 6100253- $526 US

Since booking these, most of these have gone up. I prefer to fly into MCO and then out of Tampa since the beginning of our holiday we will be in MCO and the end south of TPA, but it all depends on where I can get the lowest SWA airfare.

As posted there is your answer. We have been going to Disney/FLA over Christmas for the past 9 years and we never get bargain rates.

I got a full size this year in MIA returning to MCO from 12/22 to 1/1 for 355.00 with all taxes and fees. I used Mousavers AMEX code and a 20 coupon.
I booked it in March.

If you have an Amex card, try the amex code 5125601 on national. I used that with an entertainment coupon for 1 free weekend day, and got my 4 day compact rental for $84 all inclusive. (Dec 7-11.)

I just tried the Amex code for those dates (without an Ent. coupon) and the intermediate came out to $295 inclusive of all taxes/fees.
