I know, it's stupid, but I've read the SOG webpage and I STILL can't figure out if DFIL qualifies to book a room there or buy military wdw tickets.

DFIL was in the army during the vietnam war, and was stationed in germany. Once his 4 years were up, he didn't reenlist. I'm honestly not sure if that qualifies him to book a room and buy tickets, or maybe one or the other, but not both. Anyone know?

I feel so dumb...

I don't think so, I think he would've had to have retired from the Army to qualify for the disney discounts. Cheshire Figment has a detailed thread about military discounts on one of the boards, I can't remember which.

The key here is that in order to qualify for SOG or Military tickets under military classification (civilians employed by the DOD can qualify) your FIL would have to qualify for a military ID. Based on what you are telling us he doesn't. To keep it simple you can pretty much bet the only way someone qualifies for military ID is if they are currently in the military, are Retired (after 20 or more years of service), or are 100% service connected disabled meaning they were disabled in the military, medically separated and are receiving benefits from the military for a disability that is considered totally disabled or unemployable. Generally someone who served four years and chose to leave the military doesn't fall under those terms. The only exception I see to that would be for someone out for less than 2 yrs. Obviously that isn't someone who served in Vietnam.

That is almost completely true (as long as you are referring to all branches of the military) although the one big exception to that would be those (like my husband) who are 100% service connected disabled from their military service and of course those currently serving qualify.

ah, okay, i see. so my DFIL wouldn't qualify, but my DGF, who was classified 100% military disabled, would (if he were still with us).

Yes, just to clarify, I used Army because that's what branch the op said her DFIL was in.

I figured and I only made sure to stress the disabled connection because the first time we went I thought we didnt qualify for any military discounts and we could have saved alot

Yes as long as the injury that caused disability happened while he was in the military which it sounds like it was. I specify that because my dad is 100% disabled through the VA for an accident that happened years after he served. He does get disability through them (much less than a service connected vet) but he would not quallify for a miltary ID and therefore would not qualify for this deal.

SOG has offered an opportunity for honorably discharged regular vets to stay on limited dates. Don't know if this will be offered again:

This is cool! I didn't know about this. If they bring this back for your dates OP this would work for you.

If you go to the locked sticky Everything About WDW Tickets in the TPA&S Forum, especially Post #17, you can get a lot more information. An easy way to get to the sticky is by clicking on the link in my signature. The ticket sticky is your friend!
