We are going for 5 nights next year and I can't decide whether I should get the regular dining plan or the DDP. We will only have maybe 2 reservations 1 for breakfast at askerus and the other at coral reef. other than that we will go day to day and eat when hungry probably stop at the SCI-Fi diner in hollywood studios. and get just a quick snack for breakfast at the marketplace at BCV.. which plan do you think would be better?

I would recommend getting the DP. The DDP is a lot of food! We only get the DDP now when we're booking a lot of signature restaurants to eat up the 2 TS credits each. We have tried doing 3- 1 credit TS meals a few days and by dinner we couldn't eat any more. When we space them further apart (8am breakfast, 2pm lunch, 8pm dinner) it's not as bad, but it's still a lot of food. Granted, you don't have to eat all TS meals on the DDP but I feel guilty using a CS credit when paying the DDP price. Another reason I wouldn't get the DDP ,is because you only have a few ADRs booked. On the regular DP you would get 1 TS, 1 CS and 1 snack per person per night, which sounds like it would fit your dining plans perfectly!

First of all, let's make sure we're talking about the same plans:

QS or CS - Quick Service or Counter Service - 2 quick service meals, 1 snack per night

DDP - Disney Dining Plan - 1 table service, 1 quick service, 1 snack per night

DxDDP - Deluxe Dining Plan - 3 dining credits, 2 snacks per night

If you're only planning 2 TS meals, possibly 1 more at Sci Fi and you're paying for the dining plan, it probably would cost more to pay for the dining plan than to pay OOP for the TS meals.

You could get the CS plan since it sounds like you'll be doing CS meals, but it's getting harder and harder to make it pay for itself as the price of the plan goes up.

Based on your current plans, the DxDDP would not be a good idea. For this plan you need to eat mainly TS meals.

You could look at the menus on allears and get a general idea of how much your meals will cost and see which plan (if any) would work for you.

Thank you.. We are probably going to do the reg dining plan . we figure it would be to much food especially if we are only making a few reservations and stopping to eat only when hungry.. this helps thanks again. good point

Without ADR's, I wonder if you'll be able to get to use your table service credits without having to eat at very odd times, which won't necessarily match when you're hungry? I'd suggest booking a few ADR's for restaurants where you might want to eat dinner or breakfast, and leaving the lunch as your quick service meal when you feel hungry.

I agree with CraigInPA. If you're going to get the DDP or any other dining plan other than QS , you really need to make your ADR for your TS meals as close to 180 days out(if staying on property) as possible. Otherwise, you may find that you are not able to get into the restaurant of your choice. You may go to a restaurant and see that there are empty tables, but they are all booked by people who have made ADRs.

Make your reservations for whenever you would normally eat at home. If you get hungry earlier, you can always go to the restaurant and see if they can seat you. For example, if I have a 5:30pm ressie and get hungry at 5pm I go to the restaurant and normally they can accommodate me. The only problem you may have is trying to eat after your reservation time. They will view this as you having missed your reservation.
