This was in our local paper this morning. Parents wanted to teach their 7 year old son a lesson. Evidently he took some jewelry items to school and lost them. The parents drove him to a very bad section of a nearby city (lot's of gang activity, drugs deals, shootings). They told him to get out of the car and " think about what he did", then they drove away! Evidently their plan was to drive around for a few minutes, then come back and pick up their son, but when they returned he wasn't where they left him. Evidently he went in search of a way to call his grandmother to ask for a ride, and a good samaritan saw him and let him use his phone. DSS is now involved. I still can't believe parents would do this to a any child, let alone a 7-year-old!!!

I swear.....there ought to be some type of screening before people can reproduce!!!
How sad.....poor little thing.

I agree that a lesson needed to be taught, however, that was not the way to teach it!

sheesh!!
And if those dummies wonder where the poor kid got his reasoning for taking the jewelry to school and losing it - maybe the schmucks should take a good gander in the mirror!

What a couple of morons, who don't deserve kids!

Those parents are total idiots! They are so lucky nothing happened to that poor child. He must have been terrified.

Sounds like the child that had the wits about him to search for a phone and call Grandma is much more intelligent than the parents :( I can't imagine parents doing that to a chld.

That's what I was thinking! Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!

Oh my gosh, that poor boy. Bless him, don't you know he was afraid? I'm so glad he was sharp enough to call for help.

When I was a kid (and there WAS no DSS) a neighbor got mad at his son because he thought he stole something from him (which he didn't).. The boy was probably 11 or so and his dad was a very strict disciplinarian.. He took the boys hand and held it down ON a wood-burning stove until he had third degree burns..

Years later that same "boy" was killed in Viet Nam.. I always wondered how his dad felt then.......

Some parents just don't have the brains that God gave a peach pit!!!!!

I get so furious when I hear things like this.

I would bet very soon the parents will be taking PARENTING classes.!!!!!!!!

To bad it is not required that to get a marriage license you must take marriage counseling and PARENTING CLASSES since the usual porduct of a marriage is ---you are a parent. Sounds like a smart kid----get help--call grandma----I wish him luck---better yet leave the parents there and see how they fare. ( I know that isn't nice) Thank goodness the man with the cell phone was one of the good guys.

Just my .02

Man, I don't even get the connection--how in the world is forcing a kid out of the car in a bad neighborhood, in a different town gonna teach him anything about not taking valuable items to school and losing them? That just sounds crazy to me. I'm really thankful that situation turned out ok and I'm also glad DSS is involved. Maybe they'll work with those parents and teach them some better forms of discipline to use with their children. One can only hope.

Ditto! I also do not understand the logic of abandoning a [7 y/o] child, in any neighborhood - good or bad!

What also scares me for this child is that the parents did not realize their stupidity & to come to their senses during the car ride! It seems to me that even if one of those parents had thought of this idiotic idea, that one of them should've realized their stupidity during the car ride & question themselves as to what they were doing!
