Can't believe the variations in car rental rates!!!

I booked a rental car from National Emerald Aisle last December for our trip (June 19-28) for about $268. I thought that was really high but kept the reservation just the same. I checked once a week or so (using every coupon I could find) with National and all the other on-site rental agencies - I couldn't get another rate to even come close to it.

Because of the DIS, I checked last week and used the Last Minute rates with the $35/week coupons and got the total down to $220. (Thanks)

I've still been checking in case I can get the rate down. I just checked - I used the last minute rate and the $35/week coupon - the $35/week coupon was denied and the rate is now $538.

What a change!

I guess the lesson learned is to keep checking and book the lowest rates when you can get it.

It changes with supply and demand and of course the ability to squeeze those desperate at last minute. For me, mid August seems to be cheapest exactly one year out and then doubles as time gets closer. Never a great last minute deal.
