I just got off the Disney Magic this past weekend and after spending months on these boards, I considered myself a pro before I ever even stepped onboard. Now I would like to start planning a land/sea vacation in the next couple of years, however the land portion is a little overwhelming. I know that I want to stay in the All Star Movies resort as my girls absolutely love 101 Dalmations and would flip if we stayed there. How far in advance to you have to book, can you request a certain "themed" room and how do you get the best rate? Sorry about the "newbie" questions...Thanks

My suggestion is to book as soon as you have dates scheduled. You can always get better rates when they come out. Do you have an AP or AAA? Both of these can get you discounts on rooms. Otherwise you'll just have to hope that a public code comes out. You can request certain themes (101 Dalmations for instance) but it is only a request, not a guarantee, so depending on the ages of your kiddos I might not even tell them there's a possibility of staying in one of the rooms in that section so they don't get disappointed. My biggest suggestion for a newbie is to book through a travel agent that specializes in Disney. dreamsunlimitedtravel.com (one of the board sponsors) is a good one. They don't cost a thing and can help answer all your questions and come up with a basic itinerary. And, the best thing about them, is that they'll check back every day up until your trip to see if there are any new discounts that would make your trip cheaper.

Good luck!!
