People are always going to be biased towards the cameras they own. Heck, I love the D90...oddly, that's what I have. Also, it's easy for others to say, "maybe you should save up for model X" a couple months/years/etc. down the road so you have a camera to grow into. I'd really love a D700, but I think the 'saving up' necessary to get it would prevent me from taking pictures for a year. The lost opportunities have a value too.
That said, if I were in the market for this level camera right now, the T1i is the camera I would get (caveat: I have no hands on experience with it, but I do have experience with the D5000). I have heard nothing but positive things about it. Price-wise, that is fine, but nothing special. However, Black Friday occurs within 90 days. You could always buy it now, see if there are any deals between now and Black Friday/Cyber Monday/etc., and return it if a better price comes up.
