Anybody heard anything about the new S4 coming out??? My kids broke my Sony CyberShot, so I had to go out last night and purchase a new PnS at Best Buy. I ended up buying the S3. The sales clerk said nothing but good things about it, but he did say that I might want to wait a couple of months to purchase because the S4 would be coming out before Christmas. Have any of you heard about the S4??? I read online all week about the S3....never did I see a thing about the S4....not even on Canon's web site.

On another note...I couldn't wait for the S4 to come out because I needed something right now.....so I'm the latest owner of the S3.....took it to my kiddo's ball game this morning....holy crap have I been missing out with my old camera's lag time! Sports mode on the S3 so far is really good!

I would say that he does not have a clue what he is talking about. The S3 is just too new to have the replacement out that soon. Right before X-mas is not a typical time for a camera release anyway. I would bet that it will be out next year though.

Judging by the review dates on DPReview.com, the S1 came out around August of 2004. The S2 came out in June of 2005. The S3 came out in May of 2006. I'm guessing that there will be an S4 and that it will come out around May of 2007.

I looked at him kinda crazy when he told me that.....why would they release 2 models in one year?? But...he did know photography, so that made me want to believe him. He said that they got an information release at Best Buy about it.....he knew all about the new features and everything.

the S3 has been out since early this year so it is conceivable that a replacement is due "soon". but it is inconceivable to me that "soon" means earlier than february. i can't imagine a company announcing a new product this close to xmas.

Well, Canon just released some new cameras about a month ago, including several significant upgrades to already-popular cameras (such as the A640). But I agree: it's late now to be doing something like that. I can't foresee an S4 before Feb. either.

The average new product cycle on a P&S is about 11-12 months. I would say the S4 is coming in April at the very earliest. As the S3 was not a huge improvement over the S2, I am guessing that they will make larger improvements on the S4.

yes, that was during the run-up to photokina in germany, the last big photo trade show of the year. the next big camera show (pma) is in february. which is why i said i didn't expect an announcement any earlier than that.

I went into a large camera shop today looking to buy the s3 only to be told it has been discontinued and there will be an s4 available before christmas. The guy couldn't give me an exact date though.

After reading tons of threads and reviews on the suggested websites, I went into a camera store today to play with the S3. They didn't have it and when they looked it up, they said it was being discontinued and to look for the S4.

If that has ANY validity to it, why can't I find any great deals. (Missed the Dell deal.)

Sheesh, we haven't even had our S3 for two weeks and it's already obsolete! :sad2:
