Canon S3

Cool! looks like the same type of tree. Any idea what type of tree it is? If not that's fine, I was just wondering.

it's a Bradford pear tree... there's a possibility it could be an Aristocrat pear, they have similar flowers. Stinkiest tree ever. LOLOL.

:lmao::lmao: I do remember it being quite fragrant, not quite sure I'd call it stinky though, but to each their own.

The Canon S5 does pretty good with outdoor sports, at night and indoors you need to use the manual settings and high ISO levels, - a night football pic with the S5 -

Thank you for posting. The pic looks great, good to see what it can do at night under the lights.

Hi Debi! I replied to your PM, but here is a photo I took with my S3 during a band competition last fall - pretty good at stopping the girl leaping in the air:

I've only had my SX10 for a week, so I haven't had a chance to really try it out on action shots or anything, but since it's an upgrade of the S3/S5 and I absolutely LOVED my S3, I'm anticipating good results from the SX10.
Another great shot. I'm not looking to take an album full of pics from one game I just want a few action pictures a season so I think a 20 zoom will work for me.

More flower shots from me. All taken with my brandy-new Canon SX10 IS:

Our silver maple is starting to get leaves:

I guess if enough of us get the SX10 IS, maybe we should start a new thread for that camera? I've kind of hijacked the S3/S5 thread.

We recently purchased a new laptop that has windows vista 64 bit os. I also have a canon s3 IS camera. I installed the camera software on my laptop however I am unable to get the computer to pick up my camera and download pictures. I'm wondering if there is special software needed to download? Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas on how to fix this? Thank you!

You're learning the first lesson about Vista - it doesn't play well with others. Try downloading Picasa - free photo editing software from Google. I have it on my laptop (which also has Vista). You can use it to download the pics from your camera (I'm assuming you're using a USB cable). Picasa will even run a scanner, etc. And the editing tools are great. The newest version even has a text tool so you can put captions on your pictures.

IMO your best option is to get a card reader so you do not waste your battery power.

Amy - Are those straight out of the camera or did you do any PP?

ThurlFan - Those are really great action pics that you got.

Mine are straight out of the camera - I didn't even take the time to crop them.

From last weekend's trip to Corpus Christi with my son's scout pack.

I was also happy with this low-light, hand-held shot from my S5.

Hi all -- I thought we lost this thread forever! I was at a wedding this weekend and I couldn't believe how long it took for my flash to re-boot after each shot -- I missed a lot of great shots. :sad1: Is this typical with this camera (S5)? It's never happened to me before. Could it be that my rechargeable batteries need to be replaced?

Perhaps it could be your batteries - I have just replaced my rechargeable batteries with lithium ones. I would try that first - a friend had a similar problem with his Kodak camera and changed the batteries and voila! No problem any more!!

Although, on a similar note, I have noticed that my zoom (on my S3) is verrrrrrry slow to extend - as I said above I replaced the batteries with brand new lithium ones, but no change. Has anyone else had a similar problem? Otherwise the camera seems OK, takes photos OK etc, just slow to zoom!! :confused3
Any help greatly appreciated!! :flower3:

A couple of pages back, somebody mentioned that the S10 is harder to use than the S3. Can anyone elaborate?

I have the S3 and am wanting to upgrade. I was originally going for the XSi but am leaning toward staying with the more compact camera. Any thoughts?

I just upgraded from the S3 to the SX10 earlier this month. I don't think it's hard to use - it has many of the same functions, just in diff. places. I don't know if you saw my post earlier on this thread: S3 vs SX10.

Last night I used my SX10 to take some photos during rehearsal of our high school musical. I haven't even had the camera for a month, but I was able to change settings in the dark auditorium, so I'd take that to mean that it really ISN'T harder to use than the S3.;) I was experimenting with center-weighted vs spot metering, sports mode vs program w/ISO 800, single-shot vs continuous shooting, stuff like that. I haven't had a chance yet to download the photos to my computer to see how they came out.

One function of the SX10 that I don't think I'll use is the High ISO 3200 setting (under the Scene mode on the dial). I tried it just for kicks for one photo last night, and the noise was horrible just looking at it on the LCD. I can only imagine how bad the noise will be when I see the photo on my computer screen! I don't know when anybody would use ISO 3200 anyway, unless there's a photo you just HAVE to get and there's no other way?:confused3

Amy-

Thanks for that detailed response/comparison. Now all I have to do is fine one at a good price. Where did you get yours?

and DH will be happy since the SX10 is less than half the price of the XS1 LOL

Wow! The S3 Pics thread is STILL going on! I guess the "family" has gotten quite a bit bigger what with the new SX's.

I haven't had much time to hang out here, lately, but I'm still shooting with my trusty S3 -- Dew on Flowers (from my backyard on a very foggy morning):

I never even posted any pictures from my last trip to Disney (last week of Oct., 2008), but here's one of my favorites:

We had the BLUEST skies I've ever seen!! :goodvibes And, although they also set some low temperature records -- actually in the 40's in FLORIDA!!! -- it was a *great* trip!! And, great for taking pictures, too! :thumbsup2
