Canon S3

Yes you can purchase it, can't remember how much it is. There may be other programs that people use so manybe they can suggest something too. Anyway here is the website for it.

Noise Ninja

I just have the plug-in for PS, not the full version.

I just remember the other program some people use, it is call Neat Image. It is cheaper then Noise Ninja, and it has a S3 IS profile, where Noise Ninja does not. They both have trials so you can try them both out.

I'm so jealous! Those photographs are great. :goodvibes

Noiseware is another program. I have the FREE version.

Great pics!! We're cruising on RCCL for the first time in Dec, not on the Freedom, but the Navigator. Can't wait!!

I bought the S3 shortly before we went to the Virgin Islands last summer, got home and discovered that my ISO setting was on 400 almost the whole time, you would have thought I would have noticed!! Anyway, lots of daytime shots that were pretty noisy. I have one of the free noise removers on my other computer but I'm yet to take the time to fix all my pictures. Fortunately I was using my A610 also since we use that one for snorkeling so I have a lot of pics that are good but I really do need to work on the others.

Okay, I decided to run that same photograph through Noiseware to compare.

Here it is.

Ok you're making me want back on the Freedom - we LOVED that ship (we were on in October)... thanks for the pics!

Sir Bouncealot, that's COOL! I like that feature. Enjoy! And finish up that honey-do list so you can go play.

Amy, nice! I want flowers so badly! We are getting there though. This week the grass finally started to green up. :thumbsup2

Not sure if this has been addressed because I am a few pages behind, but my memory card fills up soooo much faster than it did with my Kodak. The Kodak was a 5 megapixel and I shot on the highest settings. It seems to be videos that are taking up all my space. I shot 10 pics and less than 15 minutes of video and it filled up a 1gig card!!!! Any thoughts??

Jen,

Sounds just about right to me. Video eats up alot of memory very quickly. You could try to lessen the quality of the video, but that would make a worse quality video, and that would stink. My advice is to buy a faster card like an Ultra II 2GB and keep taking the video. I think that is one of the best features of these cameras.

I’ve really enjoyed all the great Disney photos posted to this forum and have learned a lot! Now I’m hoping for some recommendations. I currently have a 6.1 MP Kodak DX 7630, but have decided to upgrade to either a Canon S3 or the new Kodak Z712.

The cameras seem fairly similar as both have 12x zoom (which is the feature I REALLY want) although the Kodak has 7.1 MP while Canon has 6.1. Not a huge deal since I primarily print 4 x 6 pics and rarely anything above 8 x 10. Price for either is around $300. Seems that the both offer similar setting options. I’m familiar with the Kodak Easyshare software so that’s a point in favor of the Z712 for me, but am willing to learn Photoshop Elements which is probably what I’ll buy with the Canon. The Z712 has a larger viewing screen, but I like they fact that the S3 has the foldout viewing screen.

I went to Best Buy today so I could see how the Kodak “feels” as I was leaning toward the Z712. Here’s where I was a bit disappointed. To me, the S3 feels a lot sturdier and more solid then the Z712.

I’m definitely an amateur when it comes to photography and would probably keep either camera set to auto much of the time—at least in the beginning. But I’ve heard that the auto setting on the S3 doesn’t necessarily produce great photos.

I’d love to learn more about photography, and I think either camera gives me the opportunity to grow. The photos on this board have definitely inspired me!

My bottom line is that I want to be able to take great pics of my kids—nice vivid colors—and improve my photography skills in the future.

Any thoughts would be very much appreciated!!

These are the 2 cameras I researched last Christmas for my wife's present. I liked the S3 better for several reasons. It had image stabilazation (IS), the fold out screen, it felt sturdier, great reviews, movie mode, etc. I bought the S3 and my wife has been very pleased with it. :goodvibes

I use Photoshop Elements 4 and it's not too hard to do the basics. It's fun to play with also.

I'll start off by saying I've a very happy S3 owner, so I'll try to keep my bias down to a minimum. :rotfl:

A couple of places I can see where the S3 has an advantage: the S3 has a better Macro mode (SuperMacro focus distance goes to 0cm!). The S3 has Manual Focus and White Balance controls, too. The S3's got a better continuous mode it's 2.6fps, the Kodak can only sustain 2fps for 6 frames. Flip-out, rotating LCD.

Where the Kodak has the advantage: it's got more internal memory (32M) the S3 has none and won't take any pictures without an SD card. It's got higher ISO settings (but this isn't necessarily a good thing as really high ISO on these P&S cameras are often awful). .5" Bigger LCD. 1 more MP.

To me, better manual controls, macro, high-speed continuous and the flip-out LCD are worth more than internal memory, higher ISO, and a bigger LCD.

However, you're already familiar with Kodak software and have it on your PC.

I don't think you'd be disappointed with either camera, really....

That sounds just right ... in fact, I'm surprised you have that much video!

Depending on the resolution of the video, you can only get about 8.5min/GB! ;)

There is, unfortunately, only one solution: MORE BIGGER SD CARDS!!!! :lmao:

Just note that without IS on the Kodak, it is going to be almost impossible to take a shot at 12x without a tripod. Also, the 1MP difference means virtually nothing. Most people think that once you get past 6MP on a p&s style camera, the extra MPs get outweighed by the fact that there will be increased image noise.
