Canon S3

MichelleVW ~ The last pic you posted (of the little girl walking your horse) is just TOO CUTE!!! I LOVE it!!!

Sorry . . . A little off subject . . .

I wanted to post my 1st 2 "stitched" pictures. I didn't use the software that came with the camera (it's still sitting nicely in the box) ~ I just used the program we already had (Microsoft Digital Image Pro 10) and it was SUPER easy! Hope it doesn't come out too big!

1st try:

2nd try . . . I played with the "color hue" on this one (the little island right under the coconut tree is "China Man's Hat" ~ it's hidden behind the coconut tree in the first pic):

What a great job and gorgeous pics to boot!!!!!

I was sooo glad I had my camera when I saw them walk away!!! I took a bunch of pictures of her in portrait mode too because I am trying to figure out what works to blur the background the best. She was the BEST model she just kept jabbering away and completely ignored me taking pictures of her...

wdwmom2 ~ Thanks!

MichelleVW ~ If it helps any . . . I noticed that when I zoom in on something, the background will blur (even on auto mode). I took LOTS of pics of my daughter one day and on Auto and the background was blurred on the shots I zoomed in on.

Here are two pictures I took of my little horse model that I liked where the blur worked like I wanted...

I am so glad to see this thread! I, too, was at Best Buy and saw the S5. I have the S2 and and quite happy with the picture quality. Just trying to decide if I want to spring for the S5. From what I can see it has most of the S2 settings. Not sure, but does it have 800 ISO?

Uh oh - I've had the digital zoom turned off from day 1 because I always heard the pictures wouldn't turn out too good, but yours look great! Now I have something else to try!

Glad to see your "wife" is having so much fun with "her" gift!:lmao:

I have been catching a lot of crap for this the past week..I guess I need to go back using mine(which doesn't take them quite as nice)..but the camera is fun..

Michelle, I really like the sunflower.

Does anyone have a water-proof casing?

hi there, i cant help you with the S3 but i do have the S5, which i love...i have gotten some really great pics with it and the video it takes is excellent...i am very happy and do not regret it, i am coming from a sony H5 which was also a really great camera but i had to play a little more to get the great pics and the movie mode wasnt quite as good....good luck with whatever you decide...oh, the reason for me i couldnt have gone with the S3 is i love the bigger lcd(my sony had a 3 inch)

I am really leaning more and more toward the S5. I know there are some aspects which I will probably not use or at least not for a while, but you never know. I feel that if I do not get the S5, in a while I will regret because there will be that one instance of needing one of the settings that only the S5 has. I thank everyone for their opinions and help in making my decision.

After reading many reviews of this camera and all the threads here about it I decided to purchase the Canon S3 IS. I was debating between the Canon and the Kodak z712. Although the Canon was about $80 more I went with it after reading more positive reviews than the Kodak and also the swivel screen and the taking AA batteries pushed me over the edge. Anyway, I just checked my email and buydig.com said it shipped. I can't wait to check FedEx tomorrow and see when it is scheduled to arrive. Just wanted to share my excitement.

:dance3:
my daughter really likes the swivel..hope it comes before the weekend

Ok, so I got my canon s3, and I'm having a few issues with it. I think I was just used to my Sony camera. Anyway, here are my questions.
1. the flash - you just need to remember to lift it up, it doesn't come up and on automatically?
2. I tried just using it on auto, and sometimes the flast doesn't work. It obviously thinks that its bright enough, but then the picture seems to be a bit grainy
3. when I look at the lcd display screen, for example, at night in a dark room, it looks grainy. If I take a picture with the flash, its clear, but doesn't look that way when just viewing on the screen.
4. what option on the wheel is easiest to take regular pictures w/out a lot of features? I've tried some of the special settings like indoor, outdoor, etc, as well as the auto, but trying to figure out the easiest.
5. again on the flash....what setting should I use if I want to turn the flash on to be set to be on?

Thanks for any help! Need to keep practicing w/the camera so I'm set before our Disney trip in oct.

Minnie,

I have the S2 and I'm no expert BUT I use the M setting on my camera. I have to admit, it's a pain, sometimes, remembering to lift the flash up. With the M setting and the flash up, the flash will go off. Now, if the picture seems over-exposed you can go into the flash settings and turn it down a notch.
If you go with the M setting, play around with the shutter speed and aperture settings till you find what you want. The good thing is you can erase anything you don't like!
Have fun practicing with your new toy. After awhile you will get a feel of what works!
