You guys were so helpful before so I am back to ask another question. I need to photograph kids in my classroom, I dont want to use a flash, I have the rebel kit lens plus a 70-300 which I love for the crispness but it wont capture the macro stuff in the class... any ideas?

If you can swing the price I'd totally get the Sigma 30mm. I've used my 50mm f/1.8 a lot in my kids classrooms and it works ok for individual shots but it's too long for group shots.

You also said macro though and that's a different kind of shooting than just kids in the classroom. What kind of macro work do you want to do?

I use the Sigma 1.4 in the classroom too. It's not macro, so you can't get right in there on the details of the work, but it takes nice pictures in the classroom.

Go for the Sigma 30mm f/1.4.

The Canon 50mm f/1.8 will tempt you because it's a lot cheaper. But I wouldn't want to be any tighter than 30mm indoors and the Sigma is just an awesome lens.

I have an 18-200 3.5 that I use as my "everyday" lens. I get great indoor shots as well as outdoor.
