I just bought the Powershot A70 yesterday (YAY!) and have a question regarding transferring pictures. While reading the manual I see I need a Compact Flash card reader to transfer my pictures to my computer but then I read where you just need to plug the camera to the computer throught the USB cable. I'm pretty confused with the two options. Maybe I'm reading the manual wrong. Do I need to buy a card reader?

We have a Canon Poweshot S30 and I use the USB cable to connect to the camera. The software that came with the camera boots up and uploads the pictures to my computer. It's that easy. I don't have a cardreader and don't plan on getting one. Good luck!

I keep the USB plugged in the computer and then just plug the camara in when I want to transfer pictures...takes no time at all.

<font color=navy>I have a Canon S30, and use the Sansdisk card reader. I prefer using that over uploading to the computer through the USB port. When I put the compact flash card in the reader, it's as easy as dragging the pics from one window to another (using windows explorer), instead of transferring the pics from your camera one by one, using the camera motor. It also connects to the computer via the USB port. I think my card reader cost about $20.

Card reader here, both one like MJ spoke of for my desktop and a reader card for my laptop. Your memory card becomes its own drive.

I have a PowerShot G1 and use the USB connection from the camera to upload photos - using the Canon ZoomBrowser software. I then use PhotoShop to edit them.

I also have an HP Photosmart printer that has a Compact Flash slot; so I can upload photos through my printer's USB interface too.

Remember to ensure you batteries are fully charged in the camera before uploading - or use the main adapter :)

I have, and prefer, a card reader. It's so simple.

Why use your camera batteries?

We have a Powershot S200 and use a card reader. It's super easy and I don't think it was too expensive. We use Canon Zoombrowser to store/organize our pictures...I think it came with the camera. I know we didn't buy any additional software.

Well right now I can't download anything. My computer does not recognize my camera so I have to work on this. :(
