Canon G10 or Panansonic Lumix DMC-FZ28

Help me decide between these two cameras. First of all, I'm a P&S person, but willing to study exposures to learn the manual aspects of the camera. Really would like a camera that does well in low light. (I know, tripod.) Both cameras are in the $400-$500 range. Leaning toward the Lumix, but scared of it's size...want to fit it in my fanny pack.

Any suggestions?

Not to add to your dilema, but Canon now has the G11 out.

Panasonic has the DMC-FZ35 out now to replace the FZ28. Looks like the FZ35 has a faster focus and an even better image stabilization. Amazon has it for $324.

I have the FZ28 and like it quite a bit. It is a bit bulky and I don't put it in a fanny pack. I think it would be too big for a reasonably sized fanny pack.

It does much better in low light than my Canon A series P&S. I attribute this mainly to the larger lens. It is bulky for a reason. Surprisingly it weighs almost exactly the same as my Canon P&S-the weight is just distributed differently. Most of it is in the lens.

I like the fact that it starts out at 28mm. I can get a table full of people in a picture while sitting at the table.

As usual it will come down to trying the camera out at the store. See if one feels better than the other. That is often more important than most other factors when choosing between similar cameras.

I recently had to choose which camera to get, but my choices were the Canon SX 200 IS and the Panasonic FZ35. I did not consider the G10 or 11 because they do not have Hi Def video. I purchased the FZ35 and really like it.
Here is my first impression.
