Canon A620 Date Stamp help

I just got mine about 2 hours ago (YEAH).

I have mine set on M2 - normal. It states in the book that this is a good setting for photo up to an 8.5x11. I'd never print out anything bigger than that anyway.

My old camera I had on seperate settings and took the same picture. It was so good that you couldn't tell if it was fine, super fine, etc...

Do most of you use the auto setting or select one according to what your taking? Also, is there a way to keep the flash turned off? Whenever I turn my camera on, it's set for flash/red eye reduction.

I received the A620 for Christmas, my first digital. I must admit that I was not real excited at first, but now.... I love it! I have not done any of the fancy stuff with it just point and shoot, but now that I am comfortable with that I can't wait to try some of the other things. Does any one know what setting I should have the camera on. Such as Fine, Super fine, M2, etc. or How about the size? What is an all aorund good mode for everyday photos?
Thanks in advance for any and all info
Laurie

I always set mine at Superfine Large. By using M2 you're not using the camera to its full extent.

But by using Large, you won't get as many pictures on the disk.

I noticed in the book it states that Large is good for anything larger than 8.2 x 11. I'd never print anything that big anyway.

Yes. but it's not only about size, from experiments, if you're using less than Superfine Large, you will also lose details (say you're talking the picture of "Tree of Life", even at 4x6 you will lose detail)

Next weekend I'll have to take some pictures at the different levels and print out & compare. Guess I'll go from there. I just want some normal every day pictures but still try to get the most out of my disk that I can.
