Canon 7.1 MP Powershot SD 500 . . . . . .. . is this TOO much of a camera for someone who has never owned a digital???

I really want a wonderful, decent digital camera. I do not want to get in over my head, however. I don't want to have to make a lot of adjustments each time I snap a picture.

Anyone have one of these and want to comment? I would appreciate it!

Almost all cameras today have an "auto" mode. All you do is point and shoot.

Point and shoot sounds good. I had so much fun cropping digital photos of my son's wedding that now i just have to have a digital camera.

Also, I live in the country and I am always seeing wildlife that I would like to take a picture of, but my little old 35 mm doesn't even have a zoom.

Thanks. I do think a lot of people seem to like Canon. I may try this one.

I just got an SD550 and I haven't gotten to play with it much yet, but I really like it so far. I basically wanted something that would be quick and simple, but that I could do more with if I wanted. There is an auto mode and a manual mode so I can point and click if I want, but I can make adjustments if I'm feeling more creative.

If you want alot of zoom you may want to look at the Canon S3 or one of several other high zoom point and shoot digitals.
