Canon 350D (Rebel XT)

*Now* you tell me, just after I mounted it to my helmet! ;)

Wonder if it would be covered by the accidental damage policy?!! :santa:

Freaked me out a little by the title, considering that I just got one... :scared1: Much happier now :)

Yay for Canon Rebels!!!

yeah but look how dirty it got. probably the nikonians would say theirs would come out clean. just kidding but wanna bet Aston Kutcher covered in dirt is their next commercial???? ;)really that is amazing

If THAT's not a testament to a product, I don't know what is!

I keep telling everyone how my Canon XSi survived my 30 foot fall down off a hiking trail on Mt. Rainier last summer; practically unscathed (well, a couple very tiny scratches on the outside and a nick on the lcd plastic screen protector). But it did! I fell down the scree (sliding rocks) on my stomach with the camera around my neck but attached loosely to the loop on my fanny pack on the front of my waist. It works perfectly today!

I broke my ankle, scraped both elbows raw, tore my nylon pants wide open at the knee and bruised my arms, legs and knees but the camera is A-Okay!

But that story is amazing!!! I'm a believer again!

The title of this post has me worried. I just bought a Ti1 and I did so much research and thought I picked a good one. At least there was a good outcome:thumbsup2

I wonder if he had to clean the sensor afterwards. ;)

Cameras are built a lot better than some folks give them credit for. I've seen a friend drop his Rebel straight on cement from his 6-foot height, and end up with a wonky lens and a crack on the corner, but the body was fine. I've seen my former Sony A300 (sold to a friend) drop from a shelf onto a desk, then bounce off to a chair, then bounce off to the floor where it rolled on tile 4 or 5 times, and come out with just a few scuff marks on two corners...still works fine. None of these were upper-level magnesium bodies, but they held up fine.

*Disclaimer: Don't try this at home kids. Just because a few of these cameras made it through some torture doesn't mean yours will. Disboards and its members take no responsibility if your camera breaks conducting tests to try to replicate these falls. We may laugh at you a bit, but we won't take responsibility!

What a terrible accident. Thank goodness that everything turned out OK, at least for the camera. :lmao:

Awesome story. And to think that I freaked out when I dropped my T1i onto carpet from waist height.
Who feels like a doofus now....
<------ This guy!!!!

evidently you needed the plastic coated body ;) but glad your personal damage wasn't even worse

That's awesome! I'll still try not to drop my T1i, but it's good to know these things have a good track record for taking a few bumps and scratches!

If it had fallen out of the plane it could have been covered, but since he jumped with it, it would be considered intentional damage.

Yeah, I probably worried more about the camera than myself that day! I walked around for eleven days before I went in for an x-ray on my ankle but I tested my camera right after the fall!

I just looked at those pictures :scared1:

Thank goodness there was a UV filter on (see the last picture in the second post), I think that made the difference :lmao:

My wife took the kids and went to visit a friend of hers a couple of towns over earlier this week. On her way home Tuesday, she called me and said that she had "broken her camera," a Rebel XTi, btw. My first thought jumped to the images of the dropped-from-the-plane-and-survived Rebel and wondered how she figured out how to do one in. She then said that she had cracked the lens. "Great," I thought.

When she got home, I pulled out the camera to assess the damage and saw this

I completely forgot that I had put a cheap UV filter on it a while back for this very reason! Personally, I don't use UV filters, but I guess they have their place on SOME of the equipment in my house ;).

OUCH!!! But Todd what does it look like under the filter? It appears that some of the damage goes under the filter but I hope not.

Fortunately, it was just the filter. Once I took it off and used the rocket blower to get the glass fragments/dust off of the lens it was fine. Took a few sample shots and everything looks good.
