when i first signed up i asked if i could downgrade int he future.
i was told after 1 year i could.
well i've had it for almost 3 years.
i decided to downgrade because i don't use the card enough at the 2% rewards locations to justify spending $49 each year for the fee.

i just called and after a few minutes on hold was told that for some reason it was not an option to downgrade.
i could not even get an explanation as to why.
i was told i'd get a letter in the mail explaining why but not even the customer service rep could see that "secure info".

has this happened to anyone else?

I have a Disney Visa and DH has a Disney Visa. I've downgraded them both a couple of times. I usually downgrade them and then they send some type of offer for free reward dollars if we reinstate it back to a premier.

i called back because i wanted to know a reason.
i talked to a manager and i'm more annoyed instead of less.
the reason i was given was "some cards can be downgraded and some can't".
no reason as to why MY card is one that cannot be downgraded.
i was given 2 options...
-apply for the regular card and have my credit line transferred and cancel the premier
-have them send a "request" (so who? idk) to downgrade.

i opted for the request which i will receive something in the mail in 10-14 business days telling me whether i can or cannot downgrade.

i informed them that if it was not possible to downgrade i'd be going with option 3 which is cancelling altogether.

my sister has a disney visa and would have no problem putting future vacation pacakges and purchases on it for me for the 0% apr and discounts.

I try to give Chase as little of my business as possible. Customer service is terrible. I have the free Disney card but never use it. Rewards just aren't that great and I don't use the 0% apr for 6 months.

Just downgraded a few weeks back. I would make sure you are calling the right number and try again. The other thing is if your credit history has changed, it might be the cause of the issue.

I didn't know you could downgrade. I had both a regular and a premiere card - had the regular first and then got an offer for $200 bonus to sign up for premiere. I just canceled my premiere card today. I get much better % back from my AmEx so I pretty much exclusively use that. I just keep the regular Disney card for the in-park perks, and only use it if the merchant doesn't accept AmEx.

Just call and cancel the card and tell them why. I'm sure you'll get a different answer.

i'll hold off until i see the outcome of this "request".
it i'm denied i will be cancelling.
even if they offer me something like a statement credit for the amount of the annual fee.
i like to use the card but when you can't even give me a reason as to why i should have to continue paying $49 per year it seems a bit shady.

i'll go back to using my local bank's credit card.
at least i can pay the bill in person. with the disney visa i send out my check 10 days prior to the bill being due and sometimes they confirm payment in 3 days and sometimes its longer.
and twice i freaked out because it was the day that it was due and they said they still had not received my payment.
both times i got confirmation the next day and i was not charge any late fee thank god or it would have been cancelled already.
meanwhile my sister has a regular disney visa and sends out the payment 5 days in advance and has never had an issue.
i'm paying an annual fee i shouldn't have to be on edge every month wondering if they'll receive my payment.

With mail taking longer these days and generally less reliable, might be time to look seriously at on-lne banking / on-line bill pay. It only takes a couple days (at most), isn't slowed down by weather or the like, and should be free (stamps aren't cheap these days).

send them an Secured Message on the website. Out of all the customer service from chase, SM seems like the most willing to help.

You should seriously consider not mailing checks for payment. There are too many problems with the mail system. I always have them auto deduct the balance from my checking account. If they screw that up it is their problem not mine.

We also almost exclusively use secured message with chase customer service. They are very helpful and fast in their response.

This is how I changed account types, everything through the online message center. It took a few days, mostly just waiting for reply, then verifying it was what I really wanted, etc. In the meantime my annual dues went through, but they refunded them the next day.

okay. i took a chance on the secure message.
i explained the situation and how i will be canclling if i cannot downgrade.
1 business day response time is much better than a 10-14 business day mailing time.
i'll let everyone know the outcome.

My dh sent them a message a few nights ago and had a reply the next morning. Hope they can take care of this for you!

Could be because of a credit history change?

i already received a response.
they again gave me a vague bs answer that "my card is not eligible at this time" but i can apply for a regular disney rewards visa.
i messaged back that i want an actual reason as to why i am not eligible.
this really is becoming ridiculous.

Personally, I would look for some sort of signup bonus the regular Disney Visa and apply for that. There is usually some sort of offer on the Disney website (usually the Disney World website offers are more generous than the Disneyland website). Once I was approved and received the bonus, I'd go ahead and cancel the Premier card. I've had the regular Disney Visa since it was first issued. Periodically, I'd get an offer in the mail to upgrade to the premier, but they offered poor incentives to do so, such as waiving the $49 annual fee for the first year, or a $50 gift card. Last year I saw an offer for a $200 statement credit for the Premier card so I signed up. I'll cancel it before the next annual fee comes due. I'll keep my regular Disney Visa because it's cute and for some of the perks, but I typically use my other cards for day to day purchases because they offer much better rewards.
