My Dh has canker sores on the back of his throat. I know there's nothing to make them go away quickly, but what can he take for the pain. Tylenol and Iburpofen don't seem to be helping.

~gargle with salt & warm water~

Gargle with Milk of Magnesia. It will coat them. Just don't have him swallow it.
Chicken broth for food. Like salt and water.

Go to your spice section at your local grocery store, I bought mine at the Walmart in Orlando to bring back here to the UK, but powered Alum which is used in making pickles. Just dampen your finger and dip it into the jar and just a dab of it on the sore, with in a day it will heal the sore, if it's to deep in the mouth just take a cup of warm water and a quarter teaspoon and mix well and gargle, it tastes awful but it really works wonders. When I was a child my mom had it in rock form and she would chip off a piece and I had to suck on it until it was melted, thank god they started to make it in powder form.

Eat lots of greenbeans...they also help to shorten the duration of a canker sore.

Dawn's suggestion is a good one. I haven't tried this myself by apparently if you mix Milk of Magnesia with liquid Benadryl it is really supposed to help. There is a ratio of how much to use of each. I'm sure if you google it, you will be able to find the "recipe."

Orajel will take away the pain immediately, temporarily of course. Also try Gly-Oxide, the sore will be gone in about 2 days. I also use this product when I feel one starting and it prevents it from getting bad. :thumbsup2

Yup, when DS was little, he got canker sores all the time. Pediatrician recommended swishing a mixture of 1/2 Mylanta and 1/2 Benadryl in his mouth for 30 seconds, then spit it out. Worked great!

I get them often, there horrid! I am defintly trying all these!! Hope your Dh Gets better!! There so painful! Sorry I have no help here! I heard eating yogurt KEEPS them from forming.. nad there caused by stress, and are virul..

Salt water is good - but only 1/2 tsp in a full 8 oz of water - if you make it too concentrated, it will irritate more than help.

Amosan is a good product as well - comes in little sachets that you mix with water to use as a rinse.

Kaopectate/Benadryl 50:50 helps for some.

Avoiding caffeine, chocolate and spicy foods is important as these foods will irritate the cankers.

we got a bottle of viscous Lidocaine from ds13s pediatrician. It works really well. It was a prescription item.

That must be awful. I would get some prescription pain relief. :)
