Candy Corn Acres

Did they put up Candy Corn Acres this year in DCA?

No.

If you haven't already looked at our "Halloween at DL" super thread, you should check it out. We have had live-from-the-scene updates from VictoriaAndMatt, along with photos taken the last couple of days from a few poeple.

VictoriaAndMatt reported that there are almost no Halloween decorations in DCA at all - basically some Fall-colored flower beds and that's about it. No giant candy corn at all.

It's a little surprising that they didn't at least do the Candy Corn colors on the "C-A-L-I-F-O-R-N-I-A" letters at the entrance, one last time.

I wish they would do that. The skipped the candy corn letters last year too, and I thought it was because they were getting ready to take the letters down. But the letters stayed up all year - with a World of Color theme instead - and yet they cant just do the candy corn letters one last time?

It makes me wonder if they will have the candy cane letters for Christmas.

I also think they copped out with the whole Candy Corn Acres thing. Maybe they didn't have room to do the full "acres" because of the work they are currently doing to prepare for Carsland and all that, but I think they could have put the giant Candy Corn photo op up (with the bite taken out) somewhere in DCA - even in A Bug's Land, where they normally have the giant ornaments set up at Christmas. I really feel that they wanted to focus of WoC all year. But DCA needs something to include it in the holiday seasons. It needs holiday color.

I think WoC is a big part of DCA's focus, and will be until this time next year. They will need a full cycyle of guests, letting them know to come to DCA for WoC before they can relax on pushing it. Next summer it will be similar, come to DCA and stay for WoC.

I think this Winter DCA will calm down the extras since a large part of the part will be for ElecTRONica and a lot will have rehabs going on.

Yep - I agree with you. I really do think the lack of Halloween stuff in DCA has more to do with WoC than with the DCA makeover - because they could have found places to put certain things that had nothing to do with the areas they are working on. As you said, it's the full cycle of WoC that's important. They don't want to make a big, huge deal about WoC and then only show it for a few months.

I have a hunch you're right about the holiday season too - I think it will be another slightly scaled down holiday season (possibly with no Santa in DCA this year), just like it's a slightly scaled down Halloween.

Most likely they won't start building HalloweenTime back up and making a big deal of it again, as well as adding new things into the Christmas season, until next year or maybe even 2012.

WOC is precisely the reason I have avoided DCA since it has opened, and their lack of other things going on is what is keeping me in that mindset. I certainly hope that once the majority of the construction is finished they can find more balance with their offerings, because some of us just aren't that enthralled with WOC. I'm sad to hear that their holiday theming is almost non-existent this year.

Barefootmama - Yes, exactly - "balance" is the key word! I know I don't fall in the majority of people, but I don't care that much about WoC. Yes, I watched the full show on YouTube and I know it will be spectacular in person, but I am not dying to get there and see it. I could be doing other things. I am just not that much of a 'show person' in general. I appreciate the work and time that goes into creating such a show, and the effects are awesome...but it isn't going to be a must-do for me. I'll see it eventually.

And so I was holding out some hope that there would some trace of something candy corn-ish in DCA this HalloweenTime. Mainly, it's because I feel like DCA needs it. DCA needs Halloween and Christmas things because it makes the guests feel like they are involved in a more complete holiday experience that way - when the entire resort (or at least both parks) is decked out, you feel more immersed in the whole season. I don't want to be fully involved in Halloween or Christmas in DL, only to walk across the Esplanade to DCA and find that DCA is not involved in the holidays at all, really! It would take me out of the experience and immersion. I want to feel like it's HalloweenTime and Christmas time everywhere I go in DLR. It seems weird to me that only one park is 'celebrating' Halloween!

That giant candy corn would have worked perfectly in A Bug's Land.

I totally agree on all counts! They need to be scanning the Dis boards for marketing and planning tips straight from the DLR visitors I say! :goodvibes

I'm so sad that they aren't putting up Candy Corn Acres this year...when we went in 2008, that was my favorite area of DCA. I took tons of pictures there and I loved the cute outfits that Micky and Minnie had on! My kids will not be happy when they see there's no candy corns this year! Boo to whoever made that decision!
