Is Candy Cane Inn a good choice for just DH and me? I have never stayed there before and have had so much trouble narrowing down what hotel to stay at in October! I was considering saving money and staying at the Super 8 on Katella but it makes me a bit nervous! Thoughts?

We love the Candy Cane, especially the premium rooms. Its one of my first choices when we aren;t staying at Residence Inn Maingate.

We like the Candy Cane Inn and have stayed there several times. If DH and I ever go without the kids, that's probably where we will stay.

I have stayed at the Candy Cane a couple of times now.
At Christmas in a premium room. The room is larger and they bring your continental breakfast choices to you. That was a nice touch to get you to the parks faster.
Then I stayed there a couple of weeks ago in a standard room. The rooms are very nice and clean.
The staff are friendly and I would stay there again. They also give you a discount if you have an AP. :tink:

It's a little long of a walk for our family (though they do have a shuttle every 30 mins) but is closer and much much nicer than the Super 8. It's actually a very nice hotel compared to most on Harbour Blvd.

I could be wrong, but other than the fact that it is a bit longer walking distance, you won't find many people complaining about it! It's a gem!

They also have their own shuttle, which, as I recall, leaves every 1/2 hour. :cool1:

And unless something drastic happens, they are ON TIME. You can count on it leaving the hotel on the hour and the 30, and leaving the park on the 15 and 45. You know if you are walking out to the tram lot at 1040p, the tram will be there and you know if you are out there at 1050, it just left...

I was a little concerned about staying at the CCI - but knew we could walk if needed. The shuttle was great! For our 3 days in the parks - we never walked.

We just got back from Candy Cane Inn and had another good stay. The rooms were clean and nicely decorated. Wish they were just a little larger.

The shuttle is a lifesaver for me. I walk with a cane. Breakfast is pretty good. Like that they have yogurt. The hot chocolate is very good and is great mixed with coffee to make a mocha. Beds are comfy, very important.

Great to hear all the love for CCI. We would love to stay at DLH for our first visit but I am sure we will end up at CCI for budget reasons;)

Can anyone tell me what the difference between the deluxe and concierge room is? DW and I decided yesterday to go for our anniversary in 4 weeks.

Do you mean Premium room?

They have a welcome basket, with some great cookies and snacks.
Robes.
Room is larger, by about 50sf.
DVD Player and a free movie from the front desk each night.
Microwave
Checkout is 2pm instead of 11am
Bottled water
In the evening, you select items for the next mornings breakfast, and the time you want delivered, and they bring it to you in the morning, with a newspaper.

You can see my review of CCI with pics by clicking on the link in my sig. I wrote that several years ago, but just got back from our 4th stay this summer. It was just DH and I this time so we got a standard room and it was fine for us. We felt like we had plenty of room for the two of us and we still had a fridge in the room. They also offer a AAA discount and always give you a coupon for $10 off per night for your next stay. Using these two discounts, DH and I payed only $119 a night. Including breakfast and shuttle and closeness to parks, we consider that a very good value. :thumbsup2

We walked over in the morning- about an 8 to 10 min walk. We walked back for an afternoon nap. And then planned our return to the park to hop on a shuttle to take us back. The shuttle always left on time, but he saw someone running to catch it, he would stop and wait for them. At night, we walked back to our room.

Just don't count on the breakfast delivery. Ours was not delivered 2 out of the 3 mornings we requested. We had to call down to the office and re-order as our forms were somehow misplaced. The system is not the best.

Everything else, however, is really top-notch. We love the CCI and will never stay anywhere else off-property. It's immaculately clean and feels safe, the two most important things to me.

That is really odd. I do agree the system is subject to flaws (you hang it on the door, whats to stop people from coming by and taking it before the staff pick it up at 2am?) But in probably 15 stays, we have never had an issue.

a couple of nights in July. It was a fine place.

The room was clean but dated. (I was told by some on this board most of the rooms in the are are dated.

It is a motel but the landscaping makes it more pleasant than other motels. I heard very little noise from outside the room.

It is pretty close to the parks. I gave my daughter a piggy back ride back to the room after thirteen hours in the park. We just missed the bus and I wanted to get them home.

The continental breakfast was better than I expected with a good variety of breads, pastries, donuts and muffins. (The assortment was really good for grabbing a couple of things to take to the parks) There was still plenty of variety late in the serving time the day we checked out.

I don't know when we will back that way, but if we do get back, we will probably stay at CCI again.

The front desk told us they have a problem sometimes with other guests or kids removing the order form from the door. One of the mornings, my husband actually found our form crumpled in the parking lot. That's just plain mean!!

I just got back from there yesterday and was very pleasantly surprised by it. I was expecting it to be pretty bad but it was great! Clean, comfortable, and quiet. The parking lot noise woke me up a few times which was frustrating, and the big shuttle circles the lot right outside all the rooms every half hour, too, which adds to the noise, but there's no avoiding it since there are only two stories and they all face the lot.

If smoke bothers you make sure to request a room that is NOT opposite one of the seating areas outside the rooms. Those areas had smokers there at times. Also, at the end of each side of the building there are a few rooms tucked way in that face a cement wall. Those rooms might be quiet, but you may not like the view.

We had room 237 which was a deluxe and had a view of the fireworks. We could hear the screeching tires of RSR and could see the huge wall of Cars Land. Breakfast was good, the shuttle was timely, and everyone was very nice. Right next door are two shops...one an ABC Mart and the other a 7-Eleven. VERY convenient to get a pack of water bottles or snacks or anything you forgot. I would definitely stay here again.

We just stayed in early August and had a great time. We have stayed there many times in the past and always appreciate the friendly staff, the breakfast, the shuttle, and the close walking distance. I think CCI is a great and reasonably priced placed to enjoy Disneyland.
