I've stayed in a premium (biggest) room at Candy Cane Inn. It is still pretty small, but I love how close it is and the shuttle availability. Our next trip we are considering Homewood Suites Convention Center- I understand it is very close to the Toy Story Shuttle. We have three teenagers and was thinking the extra space might be nice. Does anyone know exactly how spacious the Homewood 2 Queen Suite is? Or the King with Bunks? I can't decide where to stay! I've stayed in a King/Bunk Bed room recently at Hyatt House with my girls and a friend and I have to say I loved being in a hotel vs a motel. I know we don't spend much time in the room, but I feel like overall it is just quieter and more comfortable to sleep. Give me your opinions. I asked my kids and husband and it is a tie so far.

We stayed in the Homewood Suites Convention Center a few weeks ago in a 2 Queen Suite. We found it comfortable for our family of 3. The bedroom area had a good amount of room...equivalent to a regular hotel room, then there was the addition of the living room/kitchen space. The kitchen had a table, full refrigerator, microwave, sink and 2 stove burners. It was great for storing and warming up leftovers. The living room had a sofa bed, chair, coffee table, TV on a dresser with storage. The full breakfast each day was pretty decent: make your own belgian waffles, then every day was something different. Always some type of egg choice, meat choice, potato choice, juice machine, oatmeal, cold cereal, fruit, yogurt, bagels, etc. We only attended the evening reception one night but it was pretty good. Complimentary beer and wine and a different theme each night (it's posted in your room). The night we went was nacho night. It was extensive. 2 different types of nachos, shredded pork, shredded chicken, multiple toppings, 2 different types of lettuce, melted cheese, etc. It was enough for a meal. The toy story parking lot was right next door...a 5-7 minute walk from the front door to the bus. The had many buses running, we never had a wait coming or going. We were happy with it and would stay there again. Sorry, I have no experience with the Candy Cane Inn. (Also, the sink area is outside the shower/toilet area so it is easy for someone to be getting ready while someone else is in the shower)

We've stayed at Homewood Suites, but not Candy Cane. We are a family of six: me, DH, and four boys. I love the space in the suites and love the new hotel feel. The only thing that would make it better for me is if was across from Disneyland, but the shuttle isn't too bad.

Following. We are wondering the same thing. The only off-property we have stayed at is the Candy Cane. We are thinking of something more spacious for our next visit as well. Would love to hear more about the Homewood.

The Candy Cane can't be beat for the shuttle and location. We love to stay on property, but when the budget is not there the Candy Cane is our second favorite.

We haven't yet stayed at the Homewood Suites, but we have stayed in connecting premium rooms at the CCI. That works like a suite for us, gives us enough room, two bathrooms, two microwaves, two small refrigerators, breakfast delivered to the rooms, and the CCI perks like the free parking and private shuttle. It works so well that it is now our go-to for our multi-generation trips -- one of our favorite DLR hotels, close enough for the young people to walk to the parks, private shuttle for everyone else, great customer service for all. The return guest discount plus whatever other discount we use (e.g. AAA. AARP, AP, etc.) help to keep the rates reasonable.

I haven't stayed at CCI, but we stayed at the Homewood Suites recently. It's not bad. The Toy Story Lot is literally next door. It's a bit of a walk, but not bad. There's also a Denny's a block away if you need food. Our family of 5 had plenty of space. Technocally, you could still walk to DL, but it's a long walk and not one I'd recommend at the end of the day. My only complaint was that the beds weren't as soft as I prefer and the pillows didn't provide much support for my neck, but this is a common issue for me, so probably not a big deal for most. It's not as nice as Hyatt House or Residence Inn, but it's a great price and nice for families.

I have never stayed at the Homewood but I've stayed at the CCI and didn't care for it.

What was wrong with it? My sister and I are staying there when we visit.

Most people seem to like it so don't let our bad experience get you down. We dealt with a series of very uncomfortable situations there with little to no relief from their management. It was a shame because we really did want to like it, but our stay there was pretty awful. But I must say, I would never stay there again. And while your there, be sure to lock the chain on the door every time you are in the room and maybe bring ear plugs. And never, ever stay in room 139 or any room close to it. But other posters here really do seem to like the place a lot.

This is good advice for sure. Is the area a haven for crime?

No not at all. I'll dig up one of the reviews I wrote about are unfortunate experience there and post it here.

Here is a review I did on a social media website about our stay there back in January 2016:

Earlier this month my wife and I stayed at the Candy Cane Inn. We had heard good things about the Candy Cane Inn here and on other websites and we were looking forward to spending a couple of days while visiting Disneyland. We booked a king room and checked in on a Sunday afternoon. We stayed in Room 139. The room was a bit dated but not bad. It reminded me of the Magnum PI show from back in the 80s :).

Monday morning we got up early to be at Disneyland when the rope dropped to get a jump on the day. We had a great time but around noon it always seems to get too busy so we like to go back to the room in the early afternoon to rest and take a nap. And that is when the trouble started.

It was extremely noisy there. The GM later admitted in an email to me they have a storage room nearby. Renting out a room when your guests are likely to have a bad experience is pretty poor way run a business in my opinion. I worked in a hotel in college and you sell to sell again. But not in Room 139, I guess.

The house keeping staff there were constantly rolling the carts they keep their supplies in back and forth in front of our room. Outside of our room seemed to be the meeting place for all cleaning staff in the motel. They would hang around outside of our door and talk constantly. It sounded like a construction crew cutting up the side walk outside of our door so I called the front desk and asked them if they could get the workers to quiet it down so we could get some sleep. The front desk person was apologetic and said they would get right on it.

I called and complained about 4 times over the period of about an hour with no positive results.

So about 30 more minutes go by this time and I call again. The person I spoke with this time seemed tired of my complaints. He said they could find me another room in the hotel if I didn't like the one I had. Only problem with that is I'm supposed to be resting and taking a nap on vacation. Another problem is when my wife goes anywhere, she packs like we are going to be gone for months instead of a few days. And when we get to a hotel she unpacks everything and it is a big production to get it all packed up again. So I tell the guy all of this and I ask him is it possible he could get the people just to quiet it down a little bit or was that impossible?

He said he would try to fix the situation. So I hung up and nothing changed. The place was as loud and miserable as ever so we just gave up and laid there in bed, mad, on our vacation. After a little while we got up and went back to Disney, more tired than when we left earlier in the day.

So the next day comes and it's the same thing. Tons of noise and we could not take it anymore. So I called the front desk and told them the story, again, and said I needed a new room.

So we packed everything back up and moved half way down the walk way to the next room. The room was also dated but it was quiet so we figured our troubles were over and we could now enjoy what is left our little vacation in peace.

So the next day we go to Disney and come back for rest in the afternoon. My wife and I are in bed and all of a sudden the door swings open and a guy from the hotel is standing there staring at us in bed. We do not have a lot of clothes on. I expressed a few choice words towards him and he stood there for a moment and said sorry and then said something about the sink then he left. I didn't complain about the sink so I have no clue what he was doing in our room. Looking back on it I should have picked up the phone and dialed 911. The management there would have had to address the situation then and not try to blow it off.

I went to check out and, once again, asked to speak with the General Manager. The gentleman at the front desk said he was not in but he was one of the managers and he would be glad to assist me. So I tell him about the noise and all the calls and so on. Then I tell him about the guy who came into our room. The manager said that the employee should have knocked several times prior to entering the room and apologized for his behavior.

Later that day the GM called me and apologized for the noise in the room. He also emailed me but made no mention about the employee who entered our room without permission or warning while my wife and I were in bed so I brought it up with him and expressed my feelings about it and the treatment we received at his establishment.

The GM then suggested something about a discount on a future stay and I informed him we would not be staying at Candy Cane Inn again. Please note in the future, when your guests get turned into a peep show, in there room, they don't want to hear anything about a discount on a future stay.

He made no offer of a reduction in rate due to what we had to endure at his establishment so I expressed to him my desire for a reduced rate on our stay or a comp on the days we had extraordinary problems. The GM said he could give me the manager's special of 109 dollars per day from the 136 dollars per day, I had already paid, but could not comp me anything but he would check with someone else about it. The GM then said he would get back to me later concerning this matter. That was on January 7, 2016.

Today is January 28, 2016 and I have yet to hear back from the GM. This was the worst experience I have ever had in a hotel in my life.

That does sound like an awful experience! But I have to say, in all our stays at the CCI, we have never come close to experiencing anything like that. Our friends have never reported anything like that either. There was one time when our neighbors downstairs got drunk, and the hotel called the police. But that was not the hotel's fault and the management dealt with everything quickly and efficiently.

I definitely agree with all this about the Homewood. We stayed there May 2016. The breakfast was great, lots of options that changed from day to day. My mom loved the evening receptions. Decent sized pool with nighttime Disney movies, and a half basketball court by the laundry area was nice for some down time, too. We booked the bunk bed suite, 3 adults and 1 kiddo. My mom and brother slept on the bunk beds and were quite comfortable, brother is 6 foot and mom is pooh-sized. Kiddo and I shared the King. It was really nice to have a door to close when the youngest went to bed before the adults, but bear in mind you have to enter the bedroom to get to the bath. Our room had a great view of the fireworks every night, with big windows. Good walkable location for lots of food options! We took the toy story shuttle each day, it's about a 5 minute walk from the hotel lobby to the pick-up area. We stayed further down harbor when we went in February this year, and I'm not doing that again. $200 for 5 days of ubers! Would rather have spent that money on the homewood!

Thank you for all of the replies! The rooms at both places come out to the same price when I add parking at Homewood. I think we will try Homewood just to have a little more space and the better breakfast. Hopefully it is quieter too.

That's a great idea. There are 3 twin beds too so each kid can have their own space and no one has to sleep on a junky sofa.

You'll really enjoy the space.

I will not stay there again until my kids don't need their stroller. It's just too far and too much of a hassle with the stroller on the toy story bus.

My family stays at the CCI everytime they visit. For a large family, it's so much more budget friendly. I've personally never stayed there, but they love it. They've booked 2 rooms again for next month.

Just for your reference, Booking.com is great about listing the square footage of different room types. It says the 1 king/bunk bed suite at Homewood is 499 square feet. By comparison, a standard room at CCI (according to their own website) is 264 square feet. The premium room is 350 square feet. So you're getting about 43% more space.
