Candy Cane Inn or Howard Johnson's

We are planning a trip this summer and are in a quandry. We have stayed at CCI once and were pleased with it but am hearing good things about Howard Johnsons as well I would really appreciate it if some of you would be kind enough to give us some of your feelings as to which you prefer and why. But I chose HoJos for my next trip because of all the great stuff I've heard here.

Candy cane gets my vote, and here is why:

1. They are the same distance. CCI has a shuttle, Hojo does not. While the walk isnt bad, who wants to add that on at the end of the night?

2. They are the same price, but CCI has breakfast. While its not huge, its plenty to get my family moving in the morning. None of us like a heavy meal that early.

3. The grounds are beautful and the beds are super comfy!

They aren't always the same price, especially if you can get an ent. rate which would make it almost 50% off the CCI rate. (although not usually available during Summer peak periods).

The HoJo's new pirate themed pool with slide will blow any off-site hotel pool out of the water.

I usually recommend the CCI for adult only trips, and the HoJo for families with young kids.

The walk isn't that bad, unless you have health issues.

So glad you brought up health issues. Has anyone stayed in a handicapped room at HJ? We had one at CCI and they basically added a higher toilet seat. Any comments would be welcomed. I do not use the bus but drive to the park on a scooter. Would that change the equation to the HJ being closer?

Either is a good choice. I'd probably go with CCI unless I was getting the Ent Rate @ HoJo as previously mentioned.
