We have a party of 7 going in August would it be better to get a suite at Carousel Inn and Suites or two rooms a Candy Cane Inn. Rate are not great at either place as it sound like things are getting booked up fast. Is one nicer then the other. I'm pretty fussy about hotel rooms like them nice and clean.

We really like Carousel. The price is great and the location is very convenient. In fact, we are staying there the first week of August this year. The other is really nice. It is about a ten-minute walk, where Carousel is across the street.

Hope this helps.

Never stayed at the Carousel so I can't compare. We stayed at the Candy Cane last July. It was very clean and very convenient to the park. We usually walked to the park in the morning and when we left, the shuttle seemed to be always sitting there waiting for our aching feet (good timing or what?)

Breakfast was typical continental style stuff. They need more chairs and tables set up but you can eat out in the patio with the little birds.

Staff were very friendly with us. I wish they'd get internet access in their hotel rooms though. :)

Oh, and the 7-11 is soooo close too.

I dont want to be a negative here but I read that there are 7 of you....does this mean that you booked one of their suites? I am asking because my family of 6 had the one directly above the check in area last summer.

Keeping in mind that we are not picky but are used to Florida resorts....I need to tell you the following:

The rooms get very bright very early - no shades or curtains - only shutters which means when the sun gets up so do you (unless you have an eye mask like I did)

The garbage truck comes at 6 or 7 a.m. and it is really loud.

The elevator goes up right outside ALL the suites and although we were so tired that it didnt always wake us up when it was used at 1 a.m. it DID wake us up at 6:30 when others started using it.

We heard the people in the suite above us walking around all night and before we left I had researched the hotel and heard that the 4th floor suite (which has the breakfast room above it) was extremely loud. Which is why I made sure to request a different floor.

Lighting was terrible....the only room with a light in the ceiling was the bathroom....the other 3 rooms only had table lamps and not of high wattage? either.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask....the housekeeping staff was excellent. The room furnishings okay. Very spacious. The location was FABULOUS.

Oh and we had the "View" suite which did have a nice view of the parks.

yes, a lot of those things go along with being a Motel. It must be evaluated in light of the cost and convience. Otherwise a step up to a resort hotel is advisable.

You are right.....maybe we were expecting too much.....I think My decision may be jaded because we originally were staying at Staybridge Suites in San DIego and were to move to Staybridge Suites in Anaheim but I changed our minds to the Carousel for the convenience. Staybridge in San Diego was GREAT and it probably would have been great in Anaheim too.....we should have stuck with them.

Carousel was good for the money........very spacious....we just needed more sleep.

I was pleased with my stay at the Carosel Inn and as others have noted, you are paying for the convenience of being very close to the park.

I don't know what the ages of your party are but the walk to Candy Cane Inn would be a bit farther, however they have a shuttle that runs pretty regularly so this might not be an issue.

I don't know if this is two familes coming together? If so, I guess I would value the privacy of two rooms and two seperate bathrooms (not sure if the suites offer this?).

Also, you should realize that almost all of the hotels along Harbor Blvd are older establishments, several of them family run. They will be nice and clean but not new and soundproofed the same as newer hotels might be. You are paying for proximity. If you want to spend a bit more there is a Hilton, a Sheraton, Mariott etc for a step up in ameneties and such.

Another place that gets rave reviews from DISers is the Howard Johnson-- not sure if they can beat the rates you've been quoted but might be worth looking into. Good Luck!

Yes you are right there will be two familes one of course is us and the other my son and his family. We have shared hotel rooms before so that does not bother us. The suite I was looking at was the one with two bedrooms. One room has two queen bed and bathroom and the other room has a door on it that will close and one queen bed with it's own bathroom. We will be traveling with a special need child and a 3 year old and an infant so thought the Carousel might be better for a couple of reasons. Because our special needs grandson is on a wheat free diet we would be able to cook some of his meals in the microwave. The walk is shorter to the parks and also having a McDonalds close by for the little ones(Yeah I know how many people plan there trip around McDonalds). I did look at the Howard Johnson but it seem like there is a lot of talk about noise from the freeway. But I quess the most important thing to us it that the place we pick is nice and clean. I can not stand a bathroom with rust and stains in the tub. Thanks for everyones input It's hard to book rooms in places you never been in before maybe I'm making too big of deal out of this.

If you haven't already done so, check the hotel reviews on Tripadvisor.com. Most of the motel/hotels in the DLR area have 50+ reviews, so it's a good way to get additional opinions.

Vellamint, I hear you! I remember a day I desperatly needed a nap while staying at the Carousel.....and the whole time 3 boys were playing football in the parking lot right outside our door! I think we stayed at Paradise Pier next trip ;)

Yes sssllllleeeeppppp...

Keep in mind also....we stayed a week....if you are only there for a few days it probably would not affect you as much....but after night number 4....arghhh!

Were you at the Staybridge San Diego Sorrento Mesa? We are planning to stay there in August and I would love any information you can give me including the surrounding area and accessability to SeaWorld and the zoo.

we were at the Staybridge in Carmel Mountain/Rancho Bernardo area....that seemed to be the only one with 2 bedroom suites when we were looking.

It was further away from everything - 30 minutes everywhere at least - but it was really, really nice.

We loved the Carousel. It is so nice to have that good breakfast, fridge included, big room, and short walk to McDonald's. We would go there again in a heartbeat. The only downfall is that the pool is small. It does give you a great view of the fireworks, though. Good luck! :cool1:

This may be a little late in coming - but we absolutely loved the Candy Cane Inn both times we stayed there, and would stay there again anytime. They have their own shuttle that runs every 30 minutes, an extensive breakfast, nice pool, VERY clean rooms, and they are very close to the parks if you choose to walk. The McDonalds is still very close, and there are other dining options close by as well. I believe that some rooms do have a microwave/fridge option although we didn't need one on our trips. Never had any problems with noise, never heard neighbors, garbage trucks, etc. Great experience!

Before you book you should go on to Disneyland.com and see what you can get there hotel rates for. Because they have some good deals going on! Good Luck! :cool1:
