Candlelight Processional. Is it worth going to? What about my 5 year old son?

Has anyone been to the candlellight processional?
Can you share your thoughts?

Would my 5 year son enjoy the program?

It is sooo worth going to. It depends with children we tried to go one year with our around that age but it was late and they were tired and restless. So, it was hard to enjoy.

My children who were 2 and 5 last year were pretty good at the CP. They were more antsy waiting for the show to actually start. But once the show began, they seemed to really like the music. This includes my DS who is Autistic, and soes not sit weell in church.

I took my DD when she was 4 and she was bored to tears. She liked the music but the reading was too long for her and too grown up for her to follow. I had no idea what it was all about, just heard it was good and thought I would try it. But I would not do it again with little kids.

We did the early CP with DD 5 and she loved it. However, she's not particularly restless, and doesn't normally have a problem sitting still for a while, but she really enjoyed the music and the reading of the Christmas story. Of course, our narrator was Marlee Matlin, and she was intrigued by the signing.

As far as thoughts on the CP itself -- beautiful, festive, moving. I wouldn't miss it if I was there for the holidays.

How early do you have to show up to get a seat? (not the BEST seat, but to get in...)

As a general rule I would advise against taking young children to see the Processional. They tend to get restless, and the event tends to get very long for them. If I did take a child, I would be sure to go during the earliest show possible, and not have them worn out before hand.

My boys were aged 4 and 7 when we saw the show. The 4 year old was definately too young, he kept asking when it was going to be over. The 7 year old was more well-behaved, but I'm not sure he understood what was going on.
