I've done the CP package twice. Both times, I saw the first show and ate after. That's just my preference - I don't want to hurry through my meal to get to the show, plus I don't like feeling full from a meal while I'm watching a show (and the CP packages are big meals). Some people don't like the first show because it's not quite dark at that time, but that didn't bother me at all.
The first time I went with my family (DH and two DS's) and we ate at San Angel Inn. We loved the show but didn't really like the food, so I wouldn't choose to dine there again. We loved the restaurant's theming, but you can enjoy that just by visiting the Mexican pavilion and riding the boat ride. The food wasn't bad really, we just didn't care for it. Plus, the service was poor.
The second time I went with a friend and we ate at Biergarten. I chose this restaurant because it was in the least expensive tier and it's close to the American Pavilion. Before I went, I was really worried about finding something to eat. I'm a vegetarian and I don't like heavy foods, so I was afraid Biergarten's food wouldn't appeal to me. Boy, was I wrong! I absolutely loved it! There were plenty of salads (both hot and cold) and breads that I could eat, as well as a nice selection of desserts. Everything I tried was delicious. My friend and I were seated with a family of six on one side of us and a couple on the other side of us. I had been hesitant about the seating at Biergarten, but it worked out fine. The family next to us was a lot of fun and very talkative (especially the older gentleman who was there with his daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren) so we laughed and joked with them throughout the meal. The couple on the other side of us was very quiet and just talked to each other throughout the meal, but it was fine, not uncomfortable at all.
I loved the show both times, and I'm really glad I did the CP package. I would do it again without hesitation.
