We are planning a trip & looking for places to stay...
Budget only allows for $2500 total, that is all inclusive for the 2 of us...
Any other tips appreciated too!!

Dreams is beautiful, have you priced them out? I would also recommend checking to see if there are any travel warnings right now, there are some safety issues in Mexico these days, you might want to scoot across to Belize or someplace a little safer. :goodvibes

Cancun is beautiful, but I think Id avoid Mexico right now.

Our 2 options are Punta Cana(Not Mexico) or Cancun...
But I figured the bad part of Mexico may be around the border..:scared1:

There was a thread on here about the guy who was murdered by the Mexican pirates:scared1: Honestly, after what some posters who live down there were writing, I wouldn't go to any part of Mexico. I tend to be a worrier though. I do know a lot of people who love Punta Cana, including my SIL who is from the DR.

Todd!!! :faint: Great to see you! Hope all is well with you, Amanda and the girls. How old are they now?

Its not just the border area, if I recall there was a large scale shootout at a resort hotel in Acapulco this year. Also, the gov't had one of the largest drugs busts of all time yesterday, so I could only imagine it getting worse.

Found the story involving Acapulco:

It's great to see you Shep! :thumbsup2

Not to rain on your parade but I agree with other pp & wouldn't go anywhere near Mexico either, American's aren't even safe being on US soil NEAR Mexico. The reason it's so cheap to go there now is because no-one wants to be there.

What about Aruba? It's a quiet Caribbean island with low crime and the same weather 365 a year. My in-laws have been going for 20 years, we went our first time this year and will be going back.

The Yucatan peninsula is the safest place in Mexico right now. If it's just the two of you, you can try Aventura Spa Palace which is adults only. I sent clients there on a honeymoon and they adored it. Dreams resorts are also beautiful. You can try the one in Cancun, or go further south to Dreams Tulum. You may also want to check into any of the Karisma resorts (El Dorados are adult-only, Azuls are for families) which are beautiful.

I agree with you, we will be going to Cozumel in March and this will be our 4th or 5th trip there. We love it and it is very safe. We rent Villa's so not sure about resorts in Coz.

I second the Aventura Spa Palace. Gorgeous adults-only resort and amazing service. The only negative is that it is on the lagoon (not ocean) but I quickly forgot about that once I was there. :goodvibes

I stayed at the Dreams resort back before it was Dreams. The location is perfect and I would definitely stay there again.

I was married at Dreams Cancun!
Needless to say I adore the resort:)
It is surrounded on 3 sides by water and has a dolphin encounter on site. The resort itself is very safe, they have armed guards.
However, I am a bit nervous about Mexico this year and we are opting for a cruise

Just the 2 of you....Sun Palace all the way. Adult only, food is great. Beautiful and you can use the facilities at the other Palace hotels.

I think you would be safe in Cancun, as long as you stay right there in the tourist area, along that stretch of water where it's shaped like a 7 (or an upside-down L). If you're staying at an all-inclusive resort, you may not even need to leave the resort at all. Although, they do have some nice shops and restaurants along that stretch. I probably wouldn't wonder out of that general area though, for your safety.

Just wanted to mention that the airport there is scary!!!!!! Be careful in the Cancun airport.

Girls and Amanda are doing fine.
Thanks for asking.
I think I have read enough to persuade the decision to Punta Cana.
Thanks for all the advice!!

Hi, Dan...girls are 10 and 12.

Looks like we can't go to Punta Cana, the airline we plan to use doesn't fly out of our airport or any close airports we could drive to.

Good to see old faces!!

My coworkers parents just got back from Cancun, in fact they were there when the guy went missing. They had a ball and didn't even realize what had happened untill afterwards.

Just don't go jet skiing! :scared:

You do know the incident with the jet skier was nowhere near Cancun, right?
